pirky
Hi all ...... Just trying to find a supply of these little blighters.... A4 Stainless steel M6 x4mm grub screws [or set screws] ......I have tried locally at a couple of "fastener" places .....one on Nuffield and one at Wallisdown as well as at a couple of chandlers..... Have managed to get A2 M6 x 6mm ... but not 4mm I have also found some A2 M6 x 5mm online but postage was silly money !! They are the fix for my deck hand rail on Alice [ some have gone missing] so don't really want longer than necessary ....and cutting them down is not what i really want to do either if it can be avoided. Any one know of a possible local supply ??? Any ideas of an alternative fix?? ...problem is the thread length .....only 4 mm Dave
great white
Dave only the usual places I am afraid TR fasteners on the nuffield and Allfix at Wallisdown Others to try online would be baseline or ASAP supplies. http://www.baselinemarine.com/shopdisplayp...+Machine+Screws http://www.asap-supplies.com/ You would be better advised to use A4 [316] stainless as A2 will rust in salt water before long, you may have to buy longer ones and cut them down Charlie Edited September 27, 2011 by great white
Coddy
Dave Try giving Ashley Power in Ashley Road, they don't just do bearings but a whole host of things. I was talking to the MD the other day and he said they can get hold of most things or get them made if needed. Dave

Jim
If you grind 2mm off the front, you'll probably end up with hollow screws. You may need to take 1mm off each end. Then you'll be left with shallow hex holes ( easy to round ) Can you indent the rail ? Make sure you use loctite, or you'll need some more screws. pirky
Jim ..... I knew it was not going to be simple...... still looking for 4mm .....Thought about indent and loctite [superglue] Thanks Jim .....see you Thurs Dave
Mike Fox
Could a 2mm washer be another way of achieving the same result using a 6mm screw? Mike
Brian
Could a 2mm washer be another way of achieving the same result using a 6mm screw? Mike Washers on grub screws, that's a tricky one Mike. Dave If it's any help, I've got a lathe so could shorten them for you.
