Alice Maysold and now the weather is changing I am really missing her...but I need a smaller boat with a trailer and I'm looking for a bargain. If you are selling and have something that is really good value for money at the very very lower end of 5 figures then be sure to let me know.

Good to see you are still with us John.

Hope you find something soon and can get out fishing again.

Put your name down for crew - plenty of Club boats to choose from!

Hi Paul, I don't want to take advantage if you are just feeling down about the fishing right now - but if you are serious then I am interested - it depends a lot on the age and condition of Neo - do you have a picture? Also can you tell me more about the service history and maintenance?

John,

Been considering selling Neo due to the lack of time to get out on her at the moment and the need to maintain her ( and not having the time I used to ).

She has a 40 HP ETEC which has been fully serviced and service is due this year ( it is every 3 years ). Engine is 6 years old and I have had from new. Only fault with the engine is the Tacho has stopped working. Have fitted a stainless prop and Smarttabs plus an auxiliary engine mounting bracket

Trailer brakes need doing  ( although she is light enough to not need a braked trailer ) and bearings ( sealed for life .... ) etc. could do with a service. - wheels are a bit rusty. Trailer is around 6 years old too and I bought from Bramber.

A few chips in the hull worst is where the roller has chipped the fibreglass on the bottom of the hull.

Bait well pump at rear works fine.

Bilge Pump need replacing

Battery switch and 2 batteries - one of which is not holding charge so well.

Teleflex steering cable replaced 3 years ago

Navionics GPS ( colour )

Garmin GPS and echo sounder ( cabling to this has an intermittent connection, could do with terminal cleaner etc. - but I think I have priced her to allow this to be replaced. )

Bruce Anchor

Delta Anchor

VHF  DSC radio

Lights

Seats replaced with higher backed ones - Rivets on seat box could do with replacing.

Has the extra rails fitted. - The one on the helmsman side needs the screw replacing in the middle.

Very economical - I get circa 2 miles per litre.

I will price her to take into account the work that needs doing.( as above ). but think around £5,000 - £6000 ish.

I will have to check the manufacturers plate for the age. I think she is around 8 years old.

Planning to take her out when the weather improves, if you are interested in looking over her.

Other Orkney 520's on Boats and Outboards seem to be going for up to £8,500, so I think around £2,500 -  £3,000 for tidying her up is a good deal :)

Very nice John.

That looks nice & easy to trail & launch / retrieve.

Good choice.

See you out there ( when I get my propeller back )

Thanks all - she has an unusual history - first owner an inland vicar and apparently did baptisms on her...there is even some photographic evidence of this!

I bought her with a set of instruments but none fitted so I'm looking around at 520s to see where people put things - getting compass distant from radio etc. I think I will splash out and buy the top windscreen for her at some point as well.

2010 Honda 30 and new Mercury 2.5 aux - does anyone have any tips on security? I imagine most big outboards are stolen on land - so the trick will be to secure the boat when it's on a pontoon so it can't be moved - and securing the engine to the boat when it's in my garden. Not sure what I should do about the aux - it seems a bit of a hassle carrying it backwards and forwards to the pontoon.

I've got one of these securing the outboard to the boat (also available from other retailers... more than one might be an even better idea) http://www.falmouthyachtbrokers.co.uk/Volcano-outboard-bolt-lock.aspx

And a big thick cable lock connecting the motor to the trailer.

Also another big thick cable lock connecting the trailer to a wall (on a big Yale wall anchor).

Plus a hitch Lock

And a wheel clamp

And it's behind a locked gate.

With a car in front of it! :D

Any security is good, however some thieves remove parts of an engine which is suspected to be to an order.

This can happen anywhere even in marinas!

One of the best ways is to mark various components with DNA paint and advertise on the boat that it has this security marking.

It has been noticed that those who show they have taken precautions with warning stickers, suffer less than those who don't.

The other benefit is that if anything is stolen, and the police recover items, the police can confirm that it doesn't belong to the thief and then they can arrest him/her and you may get the goods back
