Bramble banker
I have been looking online at a suitable scupper for my Wilson flyer and have stumbled upon a ball type where by it sits inside a housing, does anyone have any views on these? Are they suitable for mounting below the static waterline transom? I think I will have a hand sump as a stand by but thought it may be a good idea for use in transit? http://www.imsupplies.co.uk/sea-scupper-valve/sea-scupper-base-size-3-77mm-overhall-depth-2-1-2-62mm.html

Maverick Martin
I had this type of scupper on my previous boat, they kind of worked but if 2 of us fished at the stern they did allow water in, so much so that I ended up sealing them up. Would have worked better if the floor in the boat was a bit higher above the waterline. So work out if your floor when loaded is well above the waterline if it is then they will work just fine Stuie
niggle
If below water line when stationary consider using rib hose type, they can be lifted when at anchor Bramble banker and Duncan F (bathclaret)
Brian
Are they suitable for mounting below the static waterline transom? Surely if mounted below the waterline, these have to potential to sink the boat. Scuppers need to be above the waterline and preferably have some means of sealing, (ask Nigel aka Niggle). mw
I looked into these last year as my rib took on lot of water when on its river mooring not any good if they are under the water line I have 50mm scuppers under the water line with flat hose on them but I would seal them up if i could just fit a good auto pump mw
Bramble banker
I looked into these last year as my rib took on lot of water when on its river mooring not any good if they are under the water line I have 50mm scuppers under the water line with flat hose on them but I would seal them up if i could just fit a good auto pump mw Albatross is on a trailer so it's not going to take on water wile sitting dormant the main reason is to not be dependant on electrics, the current pump I have is good but can get blocked and the float switch has just gone.... again! which makes it a real pain when your out for washing the deck. I think maybe a flat hose scupper may be an option, after the damming reports (that I am great full for!) about the proposed type. It will be good to be able to wash the boat wile in transit and all the little fishy type bit disappear out a drain and not have to crawl around trying to unblock the pump! Maybe a stand by hand sump as a back up. G
Jim
My little Tiddler has a self draining deck but only for light people. It connects to the outlet with a hose and has a stopcock to close it. This can be opened when up on the plane if needed. Hope this helps. Bramble banker
RIGHT.... I think in going to try a rib style 50mm ish drain and trunk, but where does one buy the fittings. They are proving quite illusive can find transom fittings with NRV but not anything with a trunk.... How do you fit these? Any ideas lads? gaffa
I have a self draining foredeck on my boat with the drain right on or just above the water line .As boat rolled water used to flow onto the deck causing wet feet So first option was to use wooden plug to stop water coming onto deck Kept forgetting to put plug in so wet feet Got over problem by using flap valve scupper fitting like this http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine/through-hull-and-cockpit-scuppers/bronze-transom-scupper-through-hull-0377a08chr There are plenty of cheaper ones on the ASAP site including GRP ,316 stainless steel and DZR brass. Works great no wet feet and deck drains no problem :D :D :D Pete Bramble banker
great white
Give laurence a call at Barnett Marine 01707 331389 They supply the RIB's that we use at work, which all come fitted with these elephant trunks They also have a sump fitted to the aft end of the deck during build, an auto bilge pump is fitted in that sump to remove rain water to a discharge over the top of the transom Bramble banker
