Kingfisher 126 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Hi Neal Sorry I didn't know that there was a trophy already. Nigel would have to get a bigger mantle piece to put them all on if there was more than one!! Martin.C, Ark, niggle and 1 other 4 Quote
sparky Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 He could always put them on the counter at Nuffield Motors, but he could'nt admire them as he's never there !!!!! Kingfisher 126, Maverick Martin, fisherman1055 and 4 others 7 Quote
Reel Wizzard Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 May be it could be run again on the same day as Steve Porters open cod comp on the 7th of December ? Quote
Brian Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 The Flounder comp is on 7th Dec. Quote
great white Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 For what it's worth re running the comp on another date would get my vote. There was some discussion on moving the flounder comp to allow us to fish steves comp, perhaps that is a good date Martin.C and Rob 2 Quote
Leicester Fisheagle Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Would be in favour of refishing the club cod comp. and Steve's comp.and moving the flounder comp. If possible. Allan. Martin.C and Rob 2 Quote
Mike Fox Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Sounds a good idea to re-run it, and a date when people have another incentive to be out makes sense, George and I would then be keen to take part, and available as crew (Frisky can't practically compete during short days, with bridge lifts, and travelling needs). Neal Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 If we go for the 7th December to run the Cod competition again - it leaves us 2 week ends before Christmas to have the Bob Horne Memorial flounder comp Sunday 21st follows the Steve Porter Christmas bash - so a few sore heads and many people probably unavailable - if last year was anything to go by! Which leaves us with the 14th December for the Flounders - but a really crap tide - more suited to fishing offshore. Then what do we do about the Christmas Hamper / Fayre........ Alternatively - the Flounder Comp could to be moved to either the long Christmas weekend - 28th December or the New Year weekend.- 4th January...........Up to you guys All subject to weather - of course! Let me know what you think. Martin.C 1 Quote
Martin.C Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 November 30th ?? Would be good for Nigel as on the 6th dec he is fishing boscombe pier winter points comp and he is leading at the moment ( surprise surprise ) and it doesn't Finish till 12.15 am so he would be very tired on the 7th and not able to concentrate properly ..... Haha the 7th it is then ... ;-) ;-) Ark and niggle 2 Quote
niggle Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I'll go with the majority.....I'll just take the Monday off as my arms will ache from pulling up all those doggies;-)) Kingfisher 126, Martin.C and Ark 3 Quote
alun j. Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I don't think the tides matter that much for flounders. A couple of years ago we fished a similar tide and there were some nice big ones caught. I think it would be good to fish the Flounder match before Christmas if we want to include a hamper....and could be fished in most weather. Fix a date for that...and move the more weather dependent Cod comp around it. Alun. Martin.C 1 Quote
sparky Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I'll go with the majority.....I'll just take the Monday off as my arms will ache from pulling up all those doggies;-)) That makes a change !!!! niggle 1 Quote

biggcol Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 The Cod comp was fished on the set date. No Cod weighed in. End of. That's fishing...... Try again next year. Ark 1 Quote
niggle Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 The Cod comp was fished on the set date. No Cod weighed in. End of. That's fishing...... Try again next year. What you trying to say Colin? Another date in January ? Martin.C 1 Quote
niggle Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Cod comp was rescheduled to Monday 17th I caught 2 so I won? Martin.C, Kingfisher 126, sparky and 1 other 4 Quote
biggcol Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Nige what I am saying is, the comp was fished and nothing was caught therefore the trophy doesn't get awarded this year. If the comp had been postponed then another date would be fine, but it wasn't and a lot of boats braved the bad conditions. Ark, niggle, Stuie and 1 other 4 Quote
Greg Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 May I suggest you keep the flounder comp on the date planned and move the club cod comp to between the Chistmas Period (like Andy's traditionally had been) I believe the 7th December tides are going to be high and only the die hards may be able to fish it? That then gives us an excuse to get out of the house and look forward to something over the Christmas period? Martin.C, niggle, Kingfisher 126 and 2 others 5 Quote
Martin.C Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 A lot of "capable" boats braved the sea conditions !!! I would say ! ( Colin ) My mate took a walk down to boscombe pier at 11pm and chose to call off our trip as he has a Alaska 500 and made the choice that it was too rough... And if there is a trophy up for grabs then why not ? It's just a bit of fun after all ... Reel Wizzard 1 Quote
great white Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Just because ot was run with no result, I personaly see no reason not to try again If some of us that fished last weekend can not make the new date, does that matter? Better to try and get a winner than just accept that there isnt one IMHO But this is a club so we should discuss and air our views so that the committee can make an informed decision So keep up the comments and help Neal out guys Martin.C and Paul D 2 Quote
Ark Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I would be up for middle of Xmas and new year And maybe the cod would have moved west Saves the long and bumpy trip East But The junior and I would go along with the comp organiser Martin.C and Kingfisher 126 2 Quote
Maverick Martin Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 For personal/selfish reasons I would prefer our xmas comp to be fished on the 7th as planned. I missed Bobs comp last year and would hate to miss it again, Bob loved his flounder fishing and I for one would like to commemorate his passing in the usual manner. If the majority did agree to change the date of this comp then as Neal says the 21st will be no good for several of us party goers so the only available date prior to xmas for us would be the 14th. If it were fished after xmas then I will probably not be available to fish it. Not sure I quite understand the views that one comp should be sacrificed for another especially as there appears to be very few cod about anyways. Would we all be asking to move dates of the flounder comp if it had a fishless result? The cod comp has been fished so if rescheduled it should in my view take a back seat over other planned activities. I never thought I would ever hear myself saying go floundering instead of coding, I must be getting olddddd................er We are a democratic club and of course the committee guided by comments from the membership will decide on what to do. niggle, Martin.C, Stuie and 2 others 5 Quote
Ark Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Here here Martin After the 7th it would be tricky , plus like you say not many people like flounder fishing but it is for a good cause And 3 cod 66 anglers ain't the best Well that's my say I'm off to bed Martin.C 1 Quote
lofty Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 If the cod grounds were in range for me Id be going cod fishing. I say rerun the comp on the same day as the flounder comp. Cod fishermen will be doing the other comp anyway. Catch a flounder on the way home. Win both. So my vote is to put both on the 7 th Quote
