great white Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Good morning all I am very sorry to pass on a message just received from Steve Porter regarding a well known and much respected Weymouth charter skipper and friend to many of us that have fished with him over the years. Chris Caines passed on at 6am this morning as the result of a heart attack. A great loss to our sport. I am sure that many Members will join me in sending love and condolences to Chris's family and close friends. Quote

Maverick Martin Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Au Revoir to a really nice gentle giant. His knowledge about our sport was endless which he shared so freely with others, this will be part of his legacy to our sport carried on in those he shared it with. RIP Chris you will be sorely missed My sincere condolences to your family & many close friends codpiece 1 Quote
Ian.Jones Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 I got to know Chris well over recent years and admired his wealth of knowledge - which he was happy to share freely - and moreover his commitment to helping other Weymouth skippers; whether developing up coming talent like Lyle, establishing the Weymouth boat fishing website, representing the charter industry in political issues or acting as a linchpin for the EFSA tournaments. He even gave me his "Black Book" of fishing marks when he retired..........40 years of proven experience......and swore me to silence. His health was always a concern and it a great shame that he did not have more time to enjoy his retirement and the travel plans that he had. Great condolences to his wife and family and RIP Chris. ChrisE Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Like, I'm sure others, we fished regularly with Chris both in Weymouth and Alderney. Charming bloke, full of the joys of life. My fondest memory of him was his appearance at the cabin door on a tough day to announce that "you're all fishing like lesbians". They threw away the mould after he'd been born. Sad day, indeed, our thoughts with Hilary and the family. Chris Adam F 1 Quote

Paul D Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Really sad to hear this. I always will remember going over to Alderney with Chris on TigerLily on my first ever charter trip with the club. Chris always had time for us small boat anglers. A true gent and friend of the club. Will be sadly missed. Quote
Adam F Posted September 23, 2015 Report Posted September 23, 2015 Took the wind out of me yesterday to hear the sad news. RIP Chris, and condolences to his wife and family. Such as shame his retirement was all too short. Will / can the club send flowers or similar to his wife? ------- I first met Chris in 1999 when I returned to Sea fishing after a number of years course fishing. He was the first charter skipper I ever booked, and still to this day the best. I stayed in contact fishing from Tiger Lily on an infrequent basis until I started the clubs Annual Alderney trip, and once again we used Chris for several years. As Chris E says, I too have very fond memories of him shouting from the wheelhouse door ' you're all fishing like lesbians!' People like Chris don't come around very often. Gone but never forgotten.
