Never seen a bass like this

Any ideas folks? Is it just an immature bass but I've never seen one like this and when a nipper I caught hundreds from the old power station out fall that use to be in Poole

Just checked it up and it is a young bass. Well worth getting - Identification guide to the inshore fish of the British Isles, by Dr Peter Henderson not cheap at £25 but well worth it and even mentions the Club in it.

Spots are characteristic of juvenile bass.

 

I seem to remember them having spots below about 4".

 

I used to catch them on the River Dart when mullet fishing as a lad. using size 12 hooks.

Wow that is different, all the schoolies I have ever caught have been little bars of silver none of them ever had chicken pox

Most fish had them when BHD pumped their clean/used water into Holes Bay years ago along with various growths!!!

How large? My CEFAS contact has advised up to 4" can easily be european seabass.

I've seen a few like that, i think its just a schoolie rather than a spotted bass but not 100%

Only my opinion but I still think it is a juvenile bass and not a spotted Bass.
