2006holmwood Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Hi all, Looking at both these and wanted to know if anyone had any idea which may be the better sea keeping. Two fishing and needs to be easily trailerable and launch and retrieve, (oap) .Cheers Mick. Quote
Brian Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Going by the Merry Fisher 580 that Derek Taylor had, I'd say the Warrior is a far better boat for fishing and easier to launch, retrieve and trail. A lot of the Merry Fisher was wasted space (cabin, wheelhouse etc.) and more windage. I don't know about the seakeeping of the 175 so can't comment. Quote
Brian Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 There are a couple of 175's in the club. Quote
Coddy Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Check out my website for user reports on these boats Dave Quote
Jim Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 Duncan F (bathclaret) Has had his 175 for many years and a very nice bloke. Send him a PM and ask for his views on them. My view is fishing only probably the 175 Comfort and appeal to the women, then the Merry Fisher. I had a Warrior 165 but not a 175 Good luck. Choosing a boat is always a trade off . . . . . You can have this . . . . or that . . . . .or a little bit of this . . . . and a tiny bit of that . . . . Boat show in a month. Take a good look and research . . . . . . . . . Jim Quote
Peter Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 I had a 175 and it dealt incredibly well with all conditions even some enormous seas in Portland race ... No finer in my opinion build quality also second to none Peter Quote
Adam F Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 175. Another ex. Owner here. In my biased opinion no finer trail boat. If I went back to trailering if have another in a heartbeat. The MF at 586 is too small to be want it's trying to be, the 655 is the size where that configuration really kicks in. Make sure you get a big enough engine with the 175, 100hp + Jim 1 Quote
Matt Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Warrior 175 We had ours for 12+ years a brilliant boat that will be able to take much more sea than its owner!! Quote
Duncan F (bathclaret) Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 +1 for the 175 and I exchanged PMs with Mick a couple of days ago with the details (fuel tank recall etc). I've no personal experience of the MF, but I can see that windage may be an issue on such a small boat. The other possible choice to take a look at during the show is the Raider, now it's manufactured by Phil at Warrior. Personally though I still much prefer the 175. Duncan Crossy 1 Quote
