Breakin’ Bass Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 Please add me to the list of boats taking part. Do I need to register anywhere else on this site? Pete Jim 1 Quote
Jim Posted November 9, 2021 Report Posted November 9, 2021 You do need at least 2 people on the boat in order to take part Pete. Your crew can be non members but for safety: At least 2 on board. Jim Graham Nash 1 Quote

jerry.shutter Posted November 9, 2021 Author Report Posted November 9, 2021 Pete, If you need crew, if you put a separate post up I would think a club member might be looking for a trip. The weather is not now looking so kind so 🤞we can get out. Quote
Graham Nash Posted November 10, 2021 Report Posted November 10, 2021 the weekend is looking less promising as it gets closer. Rob and Jim 1 1 Quote

Leicester Fisheagle Posted November 11, 2021 Report Posted November 11, 2021 Ann has just tested positive on a lateral flow test, I seem to be clear. We have just done the more accurate PCR Test, should get the results tomorrow. Jim 1 Quote

jerry.shutter Posted November 11, 2021 Author Report Posted November 11, 2021 The weather for Sunday has fluctuated for the last week. Today it’s looking ok with a Northerly 10-11mph. However in the interests of safety I think I have to leave it until Saturday morning to do a final call. We are all in the same situation so bare with me, I’ve bought bait and it’s in the freezer!!! Fingers crossed we will be able to get out and look for that elusive Cod and a few Whiting. Jerry Hooky, Jim, Leicester Fisheagle and 2 others 4 1 Quote
great white Posted November 11, 2021 Report Posted November 11, 2021 Thanks jerry Could you please remind us what the timings are for this competition. I will call my crew later Thanks Charlie Quote
Mal Thomas Posted November 11, 2021 Report Posted November 11, 2021 Agree with Jerry, Saturday looking too breezy from Northerly direction. Sunday looking a little better but more than a couple of miles offshore and it will be lumpy for the smaller boats. Might be better to defer as Cod are likely to be in 70ft + of water historically on our coast. Lets see how it pans out. Jim and Maverick Martin 1 1 Quote
jerry.shutter Posted November 11, 2021 Author Report Posted November 11, 2021 The Cod/Whiting Comp is only on Sunday as we have a weigh in at Cobbs at 4.15. Hopefully if it goes ahead, all local Poole boats will make it to Cobbs for a beer and banter, those further a field please make sure your fish weights and photos are in by 4pm on Sunday.. If possible txt or what’s app to me 07866532766 or any other committee member. Weather decision on Saturday morning. Tight lines Hooky, Graham Nash and Jim 3 Quote
great white Posted November 12, 2021 Report Posted November 12, 2021 Thanks jerry I knew the weigh in times , but are there fishing times IE is it the usual 7 HR period, 0800 start 1500 finish? Weather permitting Quote
Maverick Martin Posted November 12, 2021 Report Posted November 12, 2021 I guess this comp runs along the same lines as most of our competitions Competition rules So a continuous 7 hour period prior to the finishing times would sound about right? great white 1 Quote

Jerry Jerry I am busy tomorrow, my input is it looks like an improving forecast 10-15mph at worse as an average, wave height 600mm, so I think it is just acceptable. I will be happy if it goes ahead. I will leave it to you to finalise. Kingfisher 126 1 Quote

Graham Nash Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 Forecast is improving a little, so Graham with two non members (son Wayne and grandson Ashton) will be out there somewhere. Ive never caught a cod before (apart from while drifting over a wreck on Alfresco many years ago). Is the general opinion that anchoring or drifting is the way to fish for cod? I personally prefer anchoring (but as mentioned, have never caught a cod, maybe thats why?). Maverick Martin 1 Quote
great white Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 Hi Graham We will be at anchor for both species tomorrow in about 100 ft I am sure we will see whiting but not so confident on a winter cod Quote
Maverick Martin Posted November 13, 2021 Report Posted November 13, 2021 This time of year anchor and big baits Quote
