biggcol Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 I shall be putting my boat in at Christchurch very soon and will be mooring on a Trot at the Quomps. This will be the first time I have moored on a trot. Are there any pit falls I should be aware of e.g. do I need to leave slack if so how much etc. etc. Colin Quote
codpiece Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Colin, just being nosey, what is the number of your mooring? Derek. Quote
Wedger Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Colin, I think they vary a bit,so it will be a suck it and see. We are there 2 rows out and 4 down from the slip. In practice we found a good bit of slack in the chain so pulled up fairly firmly. I would suggest you keep a close eye at spring high and spring low to find the medium. To be honest if I leave too much slack in mine and she blows up on the low, we're halfway across the port run between the moorings and they do pack em in tight . All said, you get to know the querks pretty quickly. Any problems give me a shout. No expert mind, but I've been there 2 seasons. wedge BTW what craft are you putting there? Member Removed Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 A couple of things you might want to consider. First, mooring at Christchurch are cheap and appear to offer good value. But what we found when we worked it out, most of the time the water is not deep enough to get out if the boat out of the estauary if the draft is .75 meters which is not a lot. Matters are complicated by waves from the South sloshing over the sandspit which carry silt and block the estuary mouth which runs East to West. Additionally part of Christchurch are very shallow. If you leave the boat in the water it tends to accumulate a lot of weed. The cost of getting it it out every month for a power wash is quite high. About Quote

Neal Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 I have an old dingy you can have It needs some attention - but may get you through a season or two, as long as you have somewhere to keep it. It is too big / heavy to take to and fro on a roof rack. But you are welcome to take it if you want. Speak to me at the meeting on Thursday if you are interested. Neal Quote
