diverdave Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 The red light cameras on the Holes Bay Road by Asda will now catch you if you exceed 30 mph through a green light ! Active as of today, first in the country apparently. http://www.dorsetsafetycameras.org.uk/inde...d=297&Itemid=84 http://www.dorsetsafetycameras.org.uk/inde...id=44&Itemid=62 Quote
Sprinter Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 ok we have until the first of July to get use to this so you will be ok for your "tripping the light fantastic" this morning, I guess we are all warned though. I have lived 300M from the holes bay junction for 5 years now and have only seen one serious accident on it, and that was a youngster with a heavy foot that was drunk and trying to run his ex girlfrined over, so nothing a camara would reduce. So how that can be claimed will reduce serious accidents by 10% is beyond me on that junction, If they used this technology where there was a large problem then that would be one thing, anything else is just theft and tax. Now if they placed a sniper on top of Barclays car park to shoot people that cut the lights on red i would be in favour of that Speed on Green Safety Cameras E-mail ****PRESS RELEASE**** - Dorset Safety Camera Partnership - Casualty Prevention Through Speed Enforcement at Traffic Light Junctions As part of the drive to meet the Government target of a 40% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road collisions by 2010, the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership (DSCP) will be starting to conduct speed enforcement at traffic light junctions from 1st July 2009. Neal Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 This has nothing at all to do with road safety - just the maximum amount of revenue gained by targetting a large volume of traffic in and out of Poole on a dual carrigeway. It would be more effective to save lives by reducing the speed limit and monitoring it, along the edge of the Drax Estate by Stag Gate on the road between Wimborne and Dorchester where people are regularly killed and serious accidents occur almost weekly. Shame on you Dorset County Council, Borough of Poole Council, Bournemouth Borough Council, Dorset Police, NHS South West, Highways Agency, Her Majesty Quote
Brian Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 (edited) A nice little earner. Doesn't surprise me that Poole have the first in the country, considering Poole council appear to be anti-motorist. No coincidence that they've put them on the one set of lights that most of the bikers use on a Tuesday, to generate the most income, rather than where there have been some serious accidents. Brian Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 ok so what does the revenue raised go towards? Neal MP's expenses??? Quote
great white Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Just been through those lights to drop Dan into town and we go that way every day into work. On the way out of town I approached the lights at 30 and was overtaken by a bike two cars and a van all well over 30 what a money spinner that will be especially on a Tuesday evening Bar stewards Quote
Sinbad Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Does anyone know if the blackspot/road angel picks these up? I shall test it out tomorrow, and report back - although not at 34mph Paul Quote
Newboy Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Does anyone know if the blackspot/road angel picks these up? I shall test it out tomorrow, and report back - although not at 34mph Paul As long as they have also updated their data and you have done the same with your unit. Quote
Sinbad Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Hope so Kam, thanks for the reminder to update it... Paul Quote
Paul D Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Not that I condone speeding through traffic lights ( To be honest no=one should be worrying about being caught speeding through traffic lights as they shouldn't be doing it in the first place !) However, the stats on the safety camera site show that the number of accidents has gone UP or remained unchanged since fitting the traffic light pass on red cameras. Is this not evidence that they just don't work ?? Quote
Adam F Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 I quite often used to speed up a little to get through these lights.... ....but seriously, dont see the problem? Yes we all know they are extra revenue and stat streams, but how can you complain about not being able to break the law? Chill out guys, it's just another speed camera. Quote
biggcol Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Am I missing something ???? Is the speed limit not 30 eh???? Chill out guys buy a Landrover you will never need to worry about speed again. You can also tow your boat!!!!! Colin Quote
