I would just like to thank Martin and Neil for arranging the Open Comp.

I know how much hard work goes into this and would like to express my appreciation

Also thanks to Dean for putting us on the fish and to Martin for suggesting we could fish on AWOL. ( Conditions would have been rough for Neo I think ).

Well done all. It's a tough task indeed - but I still think a great turout - and loads of non members, so the message got out.

Gutted I couldnt fish!! Good to see a few of you again!

I would also like to thank the members who stepped forward to take on the organisation for this years open.

Martin and Neal you both did a great job. Without you the comp would have been lost.

Thanks also to all the rest of the helpers and of course all of the sponsors.

I hope that some Members that enjoyed yesterday will put their names forward to help run one next year. It would be good to see some of the work shared out again.

Thanks also to the Club which is the major sponsor and too all of the anglers that supported the event.

WELL DONE ALL THE WINNERS.

Would like to add my congrats to all who organised the comp and all those who fished it. I didn't fish unfortunately, but the turnout at the "weigh in" and the friendly atmosphere in the bar at presentation time said it all.

Great day....great prizes ....great time had by all.........says a lot about the club and people in it !!

Big Thanks to Martin and Neal and everyone who helped and sponsored the Comp.

I think I'm proof that you don't need to win prizes to enjoy it.

Well done to all.

Lovely Nosh too ! biggrin.gif

I'll look through my pictures tonight and post a few.

Well done to all of those who paid their entrance fee and ventured out, and an even bigger well done to all of those who managed to catch something big enough to weigh! And thanks to the Organisers.

The venue was spot-on, as was the food, hopefully we will be allowed back next year!

(Note to self, spend the next 12 months finding some special marks...) rolleyes.gif

Well done to all that made it a success

Martin & Neil the main organisers, Paul D, Dave Samuel , Bob Horne and others that chipped in.

Charlie summed it up for me:

I hope that some Members that enjoyed yesterday will put their names forward to help run one next year. It would be good to see some of the work shared out again.

It would be good to put this comp on a stronger footing, to make it more sustainable and less reliant on the few

Cheers

Id echo all of the previous comments - what a great day!! - very hard work for those who fished (myself included) -but our effort was at least only one day, compared to the organisers who had many more hours of effort setting up, including lost fishing time, paperwork and organising all the sponsorship.

What a result Craig! even more remarkable such a good Conger from not more than a mile offshore biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Just shows what can be done!!

We had a great day, some 15 miles out on the banks and bridge in the company of a couple of Poole / Lymington charters. It was like a washing machine on the way back in, but we were going as quickly as possible to make the scales.

Well Done also to Alun for weighing in a nice bass for the prize table... rolleyes.gif

Yep - liked Cobbs - a good venue. Slightly trickier for bringing live fish to the scales, but workable.

Lets use it again in 2010?

I agree mate

we had a cunning plan,

Will unloaded kit at the Club for us to load on boat, drove to and parked at the Quay, registered and jumped on the boat at the steps, and off we go.

end of day boat to quay, get car, load live fish into car and off to weigh in. Boat to Club clean up and car to cobbs.

Worked OK, except for part of quay closed to traffic when we got in.

but in hindsight all the extra travel around the quay area at under 6 knots, it would have been better just to go from the Yacht Club and return there, then use the cars.

Craig,

You are more than welcome mate, I am glad the tips were useful.

We stuck to an ambitious plan [Hit or bust] in a big tide, and we missed out.

If such big tides are selected again, perhaps our plan would be more conservative.

Firstly thanks for the pats on the back but I and I'm sure the others are feeling a little sore now so that's enough of that laugh.gif

I agree the venue is near perfect certainly not a better one available to us in Poole.

The comp could go forward another year. We have been offered the venue and a few sponsors have intimated that they would be up for supporting us again however! we will need some new blood to take on the admin, organising and promoting side of things.

Neil Alun and myself more or less let the beast take its own course this year. With a little effort from someone I feel it could grow greatly into one of the best comps around but it would need new helpers each responsible for their own little area of organisation. Spread out this way we could have a good comp without onerous amounts of work that would allow even the organisers to fish it or at least most of it.

Have a think guys and we will discuss at the next meeting

Nice report Craig.

Great to see someone really enjoying his fishing and able to get Jackie just as keen as you are.

You may have considered yourself an outsider but you got the slice of luck you deserved, not many take the effort to go out the day before to ensure good bait. Or sleep on the boat overnight to be prepared for the off.

I think you flatter me too much, to make it sound like we were the only threat to a 100% fish.

We tried hard as ever, but it was your day not ours.

Incidently if you were on top of the pout all day, you were certainly in a good spot.

Good chance of more eels in that area and some winter cod later.

Well done again

Well done Craig nice eel biggrin.gif

Its seems you all liked the new venue and was organised superbly good work to all that got it up and going .

I'm going to have to book it as holiday and have a go next year wink.gif ,

But what about the time of year? was the September comp a better call that the winter? was there more fish weighed in? any surprises at the scales? what won?

tight lines
