jay kay
I would like to re-name my boat but have been warned that its unlucky! What do think? Also who can i get to do the wording? Thanks.
Mike Fox
If it has to be done, alcoholic beverages of the sparkling variety should really be consumed on it's first immersion, accompanied by a suitable quantity offered to Neptune. Personally I think smashing a whole bottle on the bows is excessive, but a generous slosh from a filled glass might just possibly let you get away with it. Dunno about lettering mind... Jim
People do say that it's unlucky to change the name of a boat, Walk under a ladder, go to the pub on Friday the 13th etc. etc. etc. Are you superstitious ? I had Small Fry's name done by Ressell Hamilton at Elite Signs. Blandford Road near the lifting bridge. 33 Blandford Road Poole, BH15 4AT 01202 674496 www.elitesigns.biz I was very happy with the service and would use them again. Sinbad
Not being funny or anything... the previous owner of my strikeliner passed away on it - luckily he was on the mooring at the time, but since then, I've been a bit hesitant re-naming boats. Mind you, he did have a heart condition, and was over 80.... still - make up your own mind Paul
Adam F
Adam showed me one ......... it involved putting the old name on a little nameplate and hiding it away somewhere in the the boat if you re-name it\her . Alun. Well.... I'm not superstitious.... but.... you never know! I didnt want to take the risk when I bought my Warrior 175 - which was named - 'Old Trout'!!! So I made up a teak name plate with old trout on it and glued it inside the steering console..... ..... then changed the name to Out of the Blue. ...... then 4 months later the engine blew up!! Mind you - I didnt change the name of Blue Warrior and she blew up too!!

Brian
If you Google it, you'll find the ritual, it's something like a pint of beer for every club member at the next meeting I renamed 2 previous boats, I had no trouble with the first, but I had lots of engine problems with the last one, might have been connected with renaming it, although I'm not really superstitious, but I don't think I'd take the chance again!!! I'll second Elite signs by the Potters Arms Hamworthy, I had "MegaByte" for both sides and the stern plus "Poole" for the stern and it came to Edited October 2, 2009 by Brian
