Our current boat insurers, Saga (no rude comments please!) don't cover us to go very far out - can any members advise of other more specialised boat insurers who would cover trips as far as, say for arguments sake rolleyes.gif the Channel Islands?

Thanks,

Our club website sponsors Craftinsure are very good and I can also vouch for their swift service in settling claims rolleyes.gif

If you decide to use them please use the link on our home page and also make them aware that you are using them after a reccomendation from the club

I had an old tub and was with Noble Marine for about 8 years.

I thought they were expensive, but stayed with them.

When I bought Small Fry my premium shot up.

After asking the club for advice, I ended up with Porthcawl Insurance. About 1/2 the price of Noble Marine and after asking, they will cover me up to 20 miles out. ( plenty for a Warrior 165 ).

Well worth a phone call.

Hi Martin

This isn't meant in anyway to be picky, but we need to be careful when "recommending" anything that is FSA regulated.

Although we are not a business as such, the insurance company mentioned to sponsor the site so we gain in some way.

We are not allowed to actually recommend, just suggest reasons why we like them.

That last sentence in mind:

I use Denovo Marine Underwriting in Lymington.

01590 670055

www.insure-my-boat.com

Personal Contact is Dean Shaw on 07919400119

Why?

1) I can vouch for the fact that they have a good claims department. My recent claim has taken a very longtime, but that is far more to do with me being on mates rates at the engineers.

2) Whilst they can be a smallish percentage dearer than some insurers for our lower value (compared to gin palaces) boats you do very much get what you pay for (check the small print of your policy and see what you are and are not covered for - my own claim involved a snapped crankshaft in the engine).

3) They are fractionally dearer, I think, due to the very personal service you get. If you call Dean, he will handle your quote and enquiry. Call the office and Shelly answers. Call the following week and Shelly answers again.

Shelly will also send out your paperwork. The point being, it isn't some massive call centre in Mumbai, but a small, Lloyds backed, firm based locally.

For me, the personal touch makes it all very much more worthwhile.

If you do decide to insure your boat through them, please do me one favour.

I have to declare to all of you that if you mention my name as your introducer, I will get a small bung. It is small, but it helps buy me a few beers for angling friends at the club meetings! rolleyes.gif

Point taken Tom but we (the club) are not recommending them, I am as a user. The only benefit the club receives is a small amount of sponsorship for the advert they place on our site and as an advertiser they might like some feedback as to where their customers come from hence my asking to mention the club.

Regards speed of claims: on the receipt of final invoice sent via email on the wednesday I received a cheque in settlement on the Friday of the same week, pretty impressive and should they be a little more expensive I believe the peace of mind is worth a small extra premium

Also whoever you insure with ask them to include the channel islands and France etc (if thats what you want). Usually this can be included at very little or no extra cost. Also if someone else is likely to skipper the boat at any point put their name/s on the application form again very little or no extra cost but needs to be written in

I have used for over 20 years `Mardon` (Now Towergate Mardon) They have been reasonably priced & efficient/professional. I have to say though, that I have not had to claim but I'm sure they would be fine if you have followed the terms of their policy, ie: wheel clamp on the trailer & engine locked to the transom.

Thanks to all for the continuing comments - certainly managed to spark some interest and friendly competition! Have recently re-insured with current Saga, but we are on the verge of a new purchase, so will definitely shop around and read the small print for the new one. Thanks by the way to Adam taking us out on JV and helping us to make up our minds! biggrin.gif

If considering Porthcawl then you may want to consider www.boatinsure.co.uk since they are Lloyds based Amlin Insurance Services who strangely are the same people / insurance company who Porthcawl sent me detals for - Only went direct online as it was far more convenient.

Easy - online no need to phone anywhere ( although I did once as lost login details ) and slightly cheaper ( no middle man ).

Works for me - but then I have never had to claim.

Just read policy and can't see any limit on underwater gear - but it is covered for UK and coastal waters only - but then I can't see Neo going cross channel ( well not intentionally ! )
