  2. We made our way to the 6 mile banks and found congers, dogs, gurnard and a solitary toothy one of 13lb. I lost a heavy ray at the boat. The water was mirror flat!

Hi all, I’ve joined Sea Start today so feel a bit less vulnerable out there

  4. Area of banks six miles from Poole In the area you highlighted yesterday. Any of the banks shown on your photo are worth a shot, especially if you can find fresh bait. The extra scent will bring them to you, if you have to use frozen bait it may take longer. And sometimes groundbait helps. Best way to learn would be to crew with someone, when they have space.

Yes agree with Charlie lock the aux straight and steer with the main engine.

You could lock the steering on the auxiliary for most of the journey, and steer with the main engine as usual. Then swap back for berthing or getting back on trailer. Maybe practice to see if that works for you.

I carried an aux a few times, but (like you) i couldnt see how Id steer it easily if needed. I purchased a tiller extension, but it all seemed a bit of a faff, so it now sits in the garage and i pay seastart instead.
