  3. I took the opportunity to speak with John Skeggs today ref. the above. He explained that there was genuinely no malicious intent on his part, he didn't notice we were fishing and apologised for the incident. I have to say that I personally would still not drive my craft between two angling boats 50 yards apart that were clearly on the drift on a known mark. That said, apology accepted. end of.
  4. Happy Birthday chap see you in the bar...........

  7. All done at 06:00 this morning Paul! I've done the WSF site with the same report. I've sent a link to PBA and MCA. If he wants advertising, he's got it! I will send a formal written complaint as needed.
  8. Rich Well, a few years ago I would have been more tempted to stoop to his level, but pehaps, as he clearly needs to advertise his presence the MCA and PBA (although I don't think he's a member) will be hearing of it. He appears to have lead a charmed life so far, as he's managed to avoid most of his victims on the quay. That will change at some point for sure if he carries on like that. Another small adjustment needed.

    Bass Mls

Bassmls - epetition reply29 April 2008 We received a petition asking: "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Increase the MLS for Bass to 45cm for commercial and recreational anglers." Details of Petition: "This petition is aimed to get the government to raise the Minimum Landing Size for Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) to 45cm. This would allow every fish to spawn at least once and allow us to move to a more sustainable Bass stock. We also urge the government to lobby the EU to introduce the MLS in all member states." Read the Government's responseThe Government announced on 25 October that the minimum landing size (MLS) for bass would remain at 36cm. In reaching this decision, the Government considered all the available science and evidence and listened carefully to representations from sea anglers and commercial fishermen. Bass is a particularly important stock for the inshore fishing fleet, which would have borne the brunt of the cost of increasing the MLS. The Government cannot justify introducing a measure which would have such an impact on those fishermen given the current pressures they face and the healthy state of the stock at present. However, a package of new measures has been announced that will provide benefits for stocks of bass and more widely for anglers. This includes plans for a review of Bass Nursery Areas (designated for the protection of juvenile bass) and inshore netting restrictions.

  25. I had the great pleasure of joining Rob Thompson on Shogun a few weeks ago to have an early crack at the plaice. A very dark start required with this one for the long cruise out to Selsey Bill. However, with the fridge stuffed to the top with homemade sausage and fresh bacon we were fully entertained and occupied every moment. On arrival we could see that our work was cut out. The water was a little murky to say the least and with the light threatening to hide behind each passing cloud, this wouldn't be easy. But as Rupert quite rightly pointed out, someone has to be the first to crack it ........... let it be us. To start the day Rob gave us a drift or two which produced the first spotty to young Master Morrall to show us how it's done, a fitting and encouraging start. With another spotty or two on board conditions dictated we'd probably do better anchored and let the passing plaice sniff out the baits. The change of tactics gave us the opportunity to fish multiple baits and increase our chances. We enjoyed a variety of sport all day with rays, smoothhounds, bream, wrasse and dabs all punctuated with the odd plaice as a just reward for the effort. Most of the plaice were a little thin, a sign that the season was not quite underway, but by now (two weeks on) there will have been a great improvement. and a nice one for the Skipper Swiftly followed by the bonus fish of the day to Rob......a Sole thumping the scales down to 2.5lbs A big thanks to the Fitzpatrick crew for having me along and Rup for getting me a slot, and of coarse, thanks to Rob for a cracking day's entertainment. Anyone fancy a go............... I feel another trip coming on.
