Abode11 out Saturday with very poor bait as I was told the rag mans boat has broken. Just lately it seems to be an uphill struggle just to get out with no hitches. Filled up from our last trip out to the rips and all the hassle we had that time I used 52lts which I think was pretty damn good! Any way first stop was for Mackerel, hit the biggest shoal ever, full house every drop, I think if I lowered a bucket over it would have been full. Then on to three marks all produced fish but not as good as in the past. We had our son

Yes! We finally got out for the Cod. On the slip at 6.50am Abode at the pumps 7.25am quick call for diesel only, to be told sorry out of action until 3 July WHAT, so off to the floating barge not, open until 9 am, back to Poole bridge again no service until 9am. Anyway hit the mark 11.40am (thanks and I mean a big thank for the info from Alun) twenty boats but a big difference in the areas and the distance between them. Four charter boat closest so I slipped in behind them, two drifts not a touch, then the banter on the radio that the Cod were thin on the ground and small compared to early that morning and there was talk of moving. Sh*t all this way, so we moved 25mts south, bang Jackie first in. Hit the way point button and then made shorter drifts, funny that we started a queue over the same drifts as now all boats seem to now be catching and the banter changed from no fish to three a drift (pure luck as skipper I think) As I had commitments we headed back at 2.30pm with 9 happy fish in the cool box 5lb -9lb. Five times i have tried to get out to the rips now each time beaten back by the weather. A friend has a Merry Fisher 925 we tried Tuesday but it was not to be. So we just fished X ray good fishing all day but still no Cod I am now hoping to join Duncan as crew for the Alderney trip just waiting on his call. (Bags packed)

Well done to who got out to the rips Abode 11 stayed close Xray Etc and had a cracking days fishing with a full crew. Sat I popped into Poole and spoke to a charter skipper I know and took his advice to put off the trip to the rips for safety and comfort for my crew. All day all I could think about was the Rips and them COD. Fingers crossed for a window soon.
