Dogfish Dave and myself decided to work our way around and give several spots a go today. Started with a couple of drifts in the harbour for a herring or two for bait, only small bass caught. Out to the first mark and with the small tide running 4/6 oz holding bottom. Small eyed rays from the off but only small, started getting bigger so started to weigh them just over 4lb. Lots of doggies too!! Moved out into a bit more tide, bigger small eyed up to 5 1/2 lb and a blonde to Dave of 9-2oz. More doggies!! A move to Ballard for something different hopefully, more smalleyes the biggest going 7lb to me and of course a steady run of doggies!!! A lone mackie so kept for the banker ray mark. Moved the final time amonst the PBSBAC fleet and got the fresh bait down, doggie after doggie and a tub gurnard not a ray caught. If anyone needs doggies on the species list ask Dave out, never seen so many!!! Chris 7lb Small eyed Dave 9lb 2oz Blonde

After an early start and getting the head of steam up myself, my son Andrew and Kev C headed down west in the hunt for a few fish off the wrecks. A misty start on the way out but no problem and a few cuppas later we were over the first wreck just before slack water. First drift and Kev pulls up a 4lb cod, great start and maybe a sign of whats to come. Tide dropped off and and we managed a few small pollock before the tide got going again. As the tide picked up a few bigger pollock showed up and a couple of big fish on and dropped. The fishing didn't really get going so a change of wreck and a short run to the next one, the fishing no better after a few drifts along the lenght so another move to hunt them down!!! Same again nothing massive and no numbers so off to another on the route home, bingo bigger fish a couple of pollock over 12lb and a first cod to Andrew. By now the tide dropping off again and so did the fishing so off home, stopping to give a couple of wrecks a quick go as we passed, big fished hooked but nothing landed, Kev had something on for quite a while that ended up biting through the trace, he even had a jelly bitten cleanly in half so maybe a few tope around!! A cracking day to be out only spoilt by the rugby result last night!!! Thanks Kev for the banter and top class filleting on the way in. And looking after Andrew as he has had very few days out fishing and there was a few tackle rebuilds required as wreck under us seemed to mean to him Kev I need another set of gear!!!! Not quite that bad!

Dear Club Members, December 3rd Christmas monthly meeting will be special as we have a guest speaker Siobhan Payne whose husband was wounded whilst in the Forces. Siobhan will be talking about what happened and the impact Heroes On the Water and other charities have had on her husband Martin, and the rest of the family. Martin will hopefully be joining Siobhan (family commitments permitting). HOW is a charity run purely on donations. As its Christmas an idea to help is to bring along any tackle that you feel you could donate. Unused prizes, terminal tackle, weights, feathers, rigs and even a rod or reel (light duty). Martin Hurst of HOW says all donations would be greatly received. (Please not all the tangled rusted tackle in the bottom of our boxes) Also on the night Nigel and Sandy will be hosting the Xmas Raffle, and it has been known for Father Christmas to come along too!! So lets make it a meeting to remember to round off the year and give everyone an insight into the benefits HOW play in these peoples lives. Siobhan and Martin are coming from Plymouth for the meeting so lets show them our support by having a large attendance on the night. So please invite family and friends to come along too. A reminder in your diary now so no excuses to miss the meeting... Miss it miss out. Updates for the evening to follow.

Careful Jim, sounds like you might be giving all of Jacqui's secrets away!!

A tip I had off a charter skipper was wrap your fish in foil before you freeze and when you need them they are like fresh bait! On my list to try while the macky's are still about ready for the winter. Scad are really good done like it for winter bait for Whiting!

I did ask him if he fancied a quick drift for a plaice or two down the Swash, he wasn't all that keen!!
-
I did give Dave an option of white or brown rolls, I think he needs to man up on his salt intake!!

Dogfish Dave, Bass 5lb
-
Had a call from Dave yesterday and we decided to go today as the weather looked not too bad and he hadn't been out for a while. Bass was our target species. Left at 7 wind not too bad at all and off for some live bait, no problem plenty of mackys and small scad, perfect throttle down and double figure knots (just, before you comment Nigel). By the time we got on the banks it had roughed up a tad!!!! Not a problem it will flatten on the ebb tide!! Wrong, very wrong!!!! A nice hit first drift, fish on, get it up and a tope, and that was all that was hitting the baits every drop. Tide dropped away and tope left with it, then the wind held us still against the last of the flood, easier than sitting at anchor. Dropped down a flapper and caught a spotted ray. Once the ebb started nothing on the first couple of drifts so punched into the weather to give another bank a try. Dave lands a 3lb Bass so not a blank day, then a few more drifts a couple of dropped fish and as bait was getting low decided to drop back onto first bank. Dave then lands a 4lb 10oz weighed on land as it was showing around 6lb at sea. I dropped yet another!!! (anchor comes to mind!!!) Dave the Bass then lands another on the next drift weighed on land at 5lb. Now I'm starting to feel a little left out of the party, even more so when he then lands a 3lb 10oz, by now our baits were finished so had a last drift with a red gill and Dave using dead macky, nothing taken so home we went! Well surfing back at times touching 20knots was a bit of fun for Dave helming as I made some cheese and tomato rolls. Would you like some salt Dave I asked, please he said, salt opened and splat the poxy lid came off and filled rolls with salt!!! :( (photo to follow) They were sent over a ground bait as Dave almost threw up trying one that had been unsalted badly, not easy as everything is flying around!! Came in via swash channel as East Looe on the bottom of the ebb and an Easterly best keep clear. Coming down the swash the swells were topping 15ft at times so quite hairy. A day where it was less than ideal to be out but the wind was nothing like they said it would be. A fun day with the usual banter and p--- taking not to mention about Bassing lessons from Dave next time out!!
