Slightly later start from Cobbs but the same start as Wight Magic, slip and slide down the pontoons. Out to the mark that produced a cod last week but nothing this week. Lost count of the doggies, 8 whiting for the table. A blonde ray the smallest I,d ever caught, the weight was heavier!! Later Stu caught a smaller one I think the hook was heavier, ray the size of a saucer! Stu got a lively starry smoothound about 6-7lb that had us thinking he was into a cod. Not a brilliant fishing day, very lively at times then long spells of nothing. Cracking day to be out though! Thanks Stu for the top bacon and egg butties and endless supply of cuppa.s. Chris

Left Cobbs 7.30, Twin sails unable to lift (frozen up may be) but just managed clearance to sneak under. Wight Magic already waiting for a old bridge to lift. Quick chat with Dave as we waited he was off to IOW, we were staying in the bay. Cracking weather but a real nip in the little wind there was. First mark real slow, LSD's and poxy pout sealing the baits. Then a couple of 2lb whiting, nice bonus as people were saying how quiet the fishing was. Using Nigels tips, hooks rigged as shown at meeting, them hooks are sharp, fingers now like pin cushions!!! Tide slacking and loads of fresh bait loaded. Rod in hand waiting for the slightest of bites as Nigel says you have to be ready for. He's right, smallest of bites and I hit it, fish on. 17 lb 2oz cod first this season and all hooks doing their work, couldn't beleive the hooks so deep on the smallest of bites! Last of the ebb and a couple more whiting etc. Change of tide and a bit activity but only whiting and LSD's stealing the baits. Then a 5 lb blonde ray. A cracking day with the weather and a few fish for the table. Thanks Nigel for the tips most welcome and worked a treat. Chris

I have a Garmin 4008 and would highly recommend it, will run sounder, plotter, radar and video. Has great features. Easy to use, needs to be for me!! Chris

There was some nice turbot on the IOW banks last spring tide on slack. I,ll be out there tomorrow, they have been fishing better on the EBB lately! Good luck.

Left Cobbs not a flag flying so calm. Decided to head west and have some fun. Training bank for some baby pollock for some bass bait then off west. WRONG, a different world at the lighthouse, turn about to Swanage Bay. Picked up mackerel on the way. Charter boats stacked up in there, dropped anchor on Evans rock. 30 mins later Dive charter boat asked us to leave so they could dive, reponse ended in OFF!!! LSD's and wrasse. Got bored after an hour so had a wounder to a few marks but wind against tide was a waste of time, facing one way in the wind and line passing the anchor with the tide!! Into the harbour and pick up a bouy for a relax and easy fishing! A plaice the size of a saucer and enough seaweed to keep Japan going for a year!!! Lines up and time for a pint instead! Back at Cobbs by 3. What I got: Pollock Ballon Wrasse Mackerel LSD Plaice and the right hump!! (Wind & weed) Well done anyone who kept going but after the Cobbs comp (Wind & rain) the other week you can only have so much fun for the sake of it!! Chris
