Hi Gents I'd like to pick your brains and would welcome suggestions on what the problem could be and where to look. The problem is on my mates 1998 mariner 4 stroke 25hp bigfoot outboard. It starts fine and runs sweet for about an hour and then fails to start, leave it for an hour and it starts up again with no problems. Last time we were out we ran for about 10 mins then went on the drift, starting up the engine several times to redo the drift- not big distances traveled and not enough to get the engine hot( imo). After an hour or so of doing these small drifts the engine turned over but would not fire! we ended up paddling the boat to the slip way which took about an hour. I tried to start it again as my mate went to get the trailer and it started after laboring a bit and ran fine at idle- we didn't want to risk going out again. It s very frustrating as it seems intermittent and it takes a lot of time and effort to recreate the problem. Anyone have any idea what this could be? All suggestions very welcome Cheers PJ

Similar story to Mike, had about an hour before engine troubles meant an early bath 2 fish at 2 1/2lb on the fly - released PJ

not sure about your chances of Mackerel after this blow- you might be lucky but best buy some- sounds crazy to be buying bait at this time of year but with guests aboard it'll be sods law PJ

Would have thought Cod as that's what the chip shops sell but plaice n chips is also traditional then theres the "Dover" Sole PJ

RSA catch data is becoming more important than ever for multiple reasons, that and the revenue generated. A catch 22 perhaps, most anglers want to left alone but if we don't speak up we get ignored PJ

A friend of mine has a 14ft skiff that needs a trailer and a small outboard- a 30hp good 2 stroke would suffice ( weight and price is a consideration) but anything considered. I can vouch for the fact its hardly been used. PJ

Change it to non braked, you may not need brakes for that boat and it will shorten the trailer a lot Move the axle to re-balance it, i did the same to mine PJ
