Well done Jerry - start them young.

Out with Ken with a view to target rays - wrong. Ist stop was off ballard in a 2 knot tide - a littler too much for rays generally - but not for the mini pirannah-like black bream which wrecked every large bait we put down instantly. After a couple of hours we moved to the ray mark and suffered the same consequences - as witnessed by Sparky last Friday. Last resort was to drift for plaice at the training bank - 2 hours later not a sniff from a plaice but for four feisty tubs we eventually had a bend in our rods. A brief drift in ther harbour also blanked. Even the lazy mackerel lines were fishless - no surprise there then..

Planning a trip out with Ken tomorrow - anyone else venturing out?

Lazy start with son Glen. Went to Durley and drifted for plaice, with assorted extras too. Stayed in ther Durtley Bournemouth pier area all day picking up plenty of plaice, a few small ones but plenty of keepers upto 2lb. Glen had a clonking ballan and I spawned a red mullet. On a rig I managed three at various locations on True Blue last Tuesday. Glen also managed a goldsinny for the boat too. Countlress small bream at times. Great to see plenty of club boats out in the fine weather too. As an aside we both had lazy lines out at various times and eventually glen's came up trumps - with a sizeable plaice....

View this email in your browser 2020 Fishing Opportunities Consultation Dear Sea Angler/Conservationist, Please reply to the EU 2020 Fishing Opportunity Consultation - it closes in just a few days. We have made it easy for you to reply by clicking here: https://www.saveourseabass.org/en/bigger-bag-limit/ Feel free to tell the fishery managers whatever you wish, but we suggest you say this: "The science now clearly shows that bass anglers have been disproportionately restricted compared with commercials. Follow Article 17 of the Common Fisheries Policy and increase the sea anglers' bass bag limit in 2020." Thank you very much for your continuing support. Yours faithfully, The Save Our Sea Bass Team

All the best Steve on your 50th...

Lazy start with son and out for livebaits. Three or four caught and then drifted the harbour entrance - eventually the rod hooped over and a bass was on. Not a biggie 44cm 2lb 2oz. That was it for us. Weed became an issue so it was a 3pm finish and a pint.

Angling Trust criticises fishing industry’s disregard for discards and government’s meagre monitoring A House of Lords committee has heavily criticised the government for failing to enforce the EU discard ban which was introduced to end the practice of throwing dead fish back to sea. The Angling Trust is calling on the government to urgently address this situation of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing by the UK fishing fleet which the Trust describes as using and abusing our publicly-owned fish stocks. Enjoy yourselves on your special day.

Went out with Glen at 9am. Plan was to look for rays at the mark. Sadly after 30 minutes of weed upon weed we opted to move. Apart from a small bream to Glen the baits were weeded up almost as we dropped them in. 30 minutes later we dropped the hook again in a calmer weedless Swanage Bay and began to land a series of species. First was a tompot, followed by a rock cook and a number of ballans - biggest 3lb plus. Glen found a sizeable bream and then another. We stayed until 3.30 and had a great time.

Planning to go out with No 1 son..

Dave, I don't think dropping tope by 5lb is necessary. Specimen weights are as they are named 'specimen' and something memorable. Unlike the changes the club asked for with spur dogs and undulates where captures were regularly exceeding specimen weights and nothing memorable.
