Well - the negative vibes were right, in relation to the fishing anyway - not one flattie between us. Arriving at Cobbs around 9am we were met with a frozen slippery walkway to the pontoon. Removing the icy boat cover to find an icy deck made loading up somewhat precarious but we persevered - Brian is a wizard with a sponge and cloth. I was somewhat apprehensive about whether the engine would start after several weeks inactivity but it started straight away - how reassuring that was, especially with the auxhilary being in the workshop. I think this was down to the isolation switch that Alfie had fitted last year. Although, having taken note of recent threads on this site, I had taken the precaution of buying a booster charger!!! We moored on one of the buoys near the Holes Bay channel and tried with floats and bottom baiits - found a few crabs, but that was all. We even tried near Parkstone Yacht Club and that banker for a bite Brownsea Castle - not a pull. To sum up, it was a great day, out on the water in the sunshine, topping up our vitamin D, not a care in the world. Can't wait for the next trip. Stuart

In spite of the negative vibes I'm taking Sea Dream out for an airing with my crew, non-member Brian. We probably won't venture out of Holes Bay and will try for those elusive flounders.. Stuart PS - Just heard a report of a 20lb cod from Chesil Beach (exact location not revealed!)at 7.30am yesterday. Suggests that there may still be one or two to be caught locally.
  3. Another article about the ill thought out comments of Keith Arthur. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/other-sport/n..._trust_1_772367 I know of many sea anglers who take out annual EA rod licences, and a large number who support the Angling Trust. It's just as well that the AT came out publicly against his comments. It will be interesting to see what action Sky TV may now take, if any, bearing in mind Mr Arthur's nice little earner on Sky Sport. Stuart

  5. A good idea Paul. I've forwarded the link to Dorset Police's marine section for consideration too. Stuart

  8. A man and his wife walked into a dentist's office. The man said to the dentist, "Doc, I'm in one heck of a hurry. I have two buddies sitting out in my car waiting for us to go fishing, so forget about the anaesthetic, I don't have time for the gums to get numb. I just want you to pull the tooth, and be done with it! We have to launch in time for the 9.30 bridge lift or we won't be able to fish the competition and it's 9 already... I don't have time to wait for the anaesthetic to work.

I'm on dry stack at Cobbs and they charge by hull length. They may well do deals on price. My 5 metre Alaska comes in a little over
  10. Thanks for the help and advice gents - lots of useful information and tips. I'll let you know how anchoring with the 5kg Bruce goes - when I get out again. Stuart
  11. I'm just changing a 3.5 kg Danforth to a 5 kg Bruce type on my Alaska 500. I was unhappy with the Danforth before I ever used it as it's not easy to set it up to trip. There's 10 metres of 8mm chain on 100 metres 10mm warp. Reading all of the above this looks to be the minimum I should use. I'm interested in knowing how to monel wire the shackles. A colleague of mine suggested burring over the end thread? Stuart
  12. A fifteen year old Amish boy and his father were in a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked, 'What is this Father?' The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, 'Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is.' While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, A fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed, and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially.. They continued to watch until it reached the last number, and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son. 'Go get your Mother.'
  13. Well done Paul, looks like a solid specimen too. Stuart

I have one of those in white, used to carry an old 14 inch TV. It's in good condition - found it in the shed with all those items we hang on to 'just in case'. Free to a good home. Stuart

    Cod rigs

Looks like a knotless knot, introduced by carp anglers but very good for the top hook of a fixed pennel.
  18. Very nice fish Col, so near but yet so far. Stuart PS - buy a bigger bucket.
  19. I'm interested in all aspects of sea fishing locally having fished from charter boats in Dorset and Hampshire for a number of years. I enjoy making rigs and trying something new.
  20. Hello everyone - having recently bought my first boat I was advised to join the club, and having had a good look at the website I took the plunge a few days ago. I'm based at Cobbs Quay and hope to 'hoist' the club pennant soon.. I may be able to attend Thursday's meeting and either way I look forward to meeting new friends. Stuart
