  2. Happy birthday Stuie and best wishes
  3. Whilst out yesterday there was a May Day call relay about a Kyaker missing in the Durdle Dor area, not sure if this was the same person.
  4. Can you post some vhf courses please.

  5. Dan is not a member is my understanding
  6. Is'nt Tiddler a pilot.
  7. Chris and I had a strange start to our Day when Chris spotted a large black refuse sack by stakes bouy. We decided to lift it out as it looked suspicious. Inside the black sack we found two inflated life jackets with names on. We called the find in to the Harbour commissioners just incase anything untoward had happened. On our return to the Harbour we handed in the jackets.
  8. A fruitful trip on Kingfisher, about 20 rays of all species. We started on the secret Ray mark, my wife, Sandy and Nigel Allen were due to pass us whilst on a trip to Guernsey on the Condor. We had a wave good bye as they left the swash channel, then they turned around were on their way back in with Condor suffering from a Generator problem. The next hour for them was mayhem. First announcement they were still going after a quick repair, then it was all off the boat it is going no where and did'nt move allday. Chris and I had several moves during the day, the most fruitful was a late move back to the Swash. Our best effort was a 12.8lb Undulate to MT and a 10.6lb Thorney to MT. Another good day on Kingfisher, followed by a swift Doonbar๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€
  9. Having spoken with Neal and looked at the entries so far, Saturday is on and Sunday very unlikely. Tight lines.๐Ÿ˜€
  10. This weekend is looking lumpy, Saturday 13- 14 mph force 3-4 SW and Sunday is looking like 15-21 SW force 4-5 which is definitely unsuitable. As the whole weekend is not suitable at the moment, should we postpone for a better opportunity for all classes of boat.????? We also seem to have a pattern lately of the wind being heavier than forecast. Myself and Neal will chat today.
  11. As this is the presentation and last day I am trying very hard not to cancel, as we do have some shelter from a SW wind. I suggest we restrict it to the Harbour with a view to possibly inside old Harry with a diagonal line to Durley rocks. This includes some rocky features for fishing. If the forecast worsens then it will be the harbour only. Rob and other competitors can discuss on the morning and make a final call as they are mostly committee members fishing. There are some good features to fish West of the channel in the lee of the cliffs and before Old Harry.
  12. I went out fishing today, the forecast was less than the weekend and it was lumpy and not comfortable for long periods.โ˜น๏ธ The sunday forecast has deteriorated slightly.โ˜น๏ธ
  13. Charlie, I thought I was the suspicous one !๐Ÿ˜€
  14. We are watching the forecast, there is a front coming in Friday- Saturday. The afternoon ebb looks potentially bumpy, the morning looks nice at the moment. Watch this thread for an update. Fingers crossed.
  15. A very good idea, shame we have to think like this. This would save the mad rush for the phone.
  16. On a visit to Ribs marine tonight, I met a fellow angler Peter who has a long 50 year history of fishing Bournemouth bay. He has strong feelings about the miles of gill nets seen along the shore line. Peter has been looking for a voice, so I told him about the work we have been doing this week. I think we will be getting a new active members with some strong conservation goals. If you look on the site tonight Peter please realise the site has many more areas open for members.
  17. Good morning BassDaze, my name is Mal and I run Y-KNOT out of Christchurch. We fish mainly to the Needles some times beyond and we are out quite frequently. We look further afeild on neap tides but as yet not done one this year. If you see a Marlin 695 give us a call up on channel six. Iam also on the committee and the safety officer for the club, if you need to get a VHF license and obtain an mmsi number and call sign I can help with that or if you want any anchor demos we can help with that to. Are you familiar with Christchurch in the winter months when the channel markers are removed??
  18. My best effort 3lb 4 0z Black bream
  19. Yes it was calpac, the over hanging tree by the pill box was near the Aquarium swim, made famous by a mate of mine who knocked out many 30 to 40 chub a session with the odd barbel mixed in. I used to opt for the long walk to the end of the venue, praying I was the only one down their. Many large bags of good roach to casters. Great times, now full of Amercian cray fish eating the fish eggs and the otters causing lots of trouble. The Kennet is now in a bad way. See what you gone and done Rob making us oldies remember the good old days.
  20. Your joking thats exactly where it was on the last bend at the end of the venue.
  21. Awesome my favourite fishing, Barbel being as good as Bass. My best 9.8lb on 3lb line size 18 hook trotting on the Kennet many years ago, but still gives me a thrill. ๐Ÿ˜Š
  22. Wow you have started a topic here, this could run and run. Ask yourself a similar question about cars, is there a car for all uses??? A fishing boat and cruiser is a difficult blend to find. I think it depends on how big your prepared to go to get what you want, for comfort and speed your probably in the two engine market and a heavier displacement. Lighter boats at higher speeds tend to be noisy or slam and feel more rally car than Rolls Royce. The Barracuda 9 in several formats tends to be an outboard boat, fast planing and petrol thirsty. It does have fishing space upfront which is a bonus, but when anchored you would prefer to fish from the stern. Maybe a Rodman with two diesel engines and no flybridge would be worth looking at. Large accommodation, heavy displacement cruising at 18 knot + more family friendly + economical on fuel. Sterndrives can be expensive to maintain but as a rule quicker boats, but a fast fixed prop is probably more durable if you do not want large bills. Stability normally derives from low down weight in the hull and outboards tend to be higher up, if you have a catamaran this is can be offset with a wide beam. 20 knots is not the norm in our waters unless you have the right boat or flatish seas , a Targa, Rodman and few other top brands have this capability and more fishing specific boats, like the Breaksea models .Otherwise you will find most travelling between 13 and 18 knots. Hunting for a boat is great fun and many members are always looking online including myself, there is normally a comprimise as with all things, good hunting. No doubt Iam going to get shot down in flames very soon for these comments, never mind I can take it.
  23. Neil your 15mtr of chain is off setting your light anchor, a 7.5 kg anchor would give you a better set in deeper locations.
  24. Billy for a 8mtr boat I would definitely have gone 10kg, i have a 10kg on my 6.95mtr. They will exchange if you change your mind. It will probably be ok in shallow inshore depths but not for 100ft off shore anchoring.
