May I suggest you keep the flounder comp on the date planned and move the club cod comp to between the Chistmas Period (like Andy's traditionally had been) I believe the 7th December tides are going to be high and only the die hards may be able to fish it? That then gives us an excuse to get out of the house and look forward to something over the Christmas period?

Guess What our results are consistent with pretty much everyone else 0 Cod 0 Rays However, we did catch this!!! 13lb 8ozs Unfortunately, it was Vic that caught it and not me, so can't put it on the catch report as Vic is not a member!! We also specialise in catching cod on no cod comp days!!!

My wife bought me a downrigger one Christmas with all the bits. I would advise buying the weight as it has a fin guide and grab with which your main line is attached to. The fin assures the direction of the weight in the water and the smooth action of the lure. It does take a while to get use to and be sure to keep away from areas where there are lots of weed. If the lure gets snagged up in weed, then this weight gets suddenly transferred to your rod. and before you know it your rod is doing back flips. I learnt the hard way. However, it is also a great ground bait dropper in large depths of water. I used to drop ground bait in 80 - 100 feet of water and this used to deposit right by our rods. I know this for a fact because one year we caught shed loads of whiting and found our chopped up Mackerel inside them. Also be sure to look after the stainless steel wire. The stainless steel wire which was supplied with my downrigger started to corrode after a couple of years. Unfortunately, whilst trying to lift the weight out of a snag the wire snapped. We lost the weight and several yards of wire.(A costly error in not looking after my kit!!) I look forward to seeing your results soon. Good luck, Greg

A great start George and like Stuie I commend your honesty. With that attitude I believe you have the makings to be a top international angler. But here again you are already a Top International Angler How does it feel? Greg

A Zodiac of 2.700M long will set you back about £1200. They are expensive. I am not sure about Quicksilvers. I bought a new Seago 2.600M about four years ago for £240.00. I threw it away last week as the bindings kept coming unstuck, the back transom plate deteriorated and so on. And it always kept deflating You really get what you pay for and I don't need to talk to you about safety especially when kids are involved. I have just invested in a new Honwave 2.700M. This has an inflatable keel which gives the inflatable much better steerage under power or rowing and it can take up to 8hp outboard. It cost me £790.00. It is has a two year warrantee and guess what, it does not deflate. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. If you want to have a look at one they are on show at the Golden Arrowhead Inflatables next to Dee Way on the West Quay Road in Poole. It would give you an idea if nothing else. Hope this helps, Greg

I Would like to say a big thank you to Sam and his family for organising and hosting a well run 2014 Junior Competition. Fortunately the weather was brilliant which made the juniors able to enjoy their fishing experience and in turn the fish came out to play. The BBQ which was held at Sam's place was equally brilliant. Being relatively new to the club we were made to feel so welcome by everyone and the food was great. What I believe was a success was that the juniors were all hanging out together at the BBQ and I overheard them speaking about their fishing experiences - Result!!! Trying to get Brad away from the 'X' Box recently has been quite a challenge, however, I asked him if he would like to do the Junior fishing comp' again next year and he instantly said 'yes'. Brad was well happy at coming second in the number of species caught and loves his fishing tackle prize. He has it displayed on the dining room table as I write this thred. I believe if the future Junior Comps are run like this one they could turn into something big. Well done Sam Greg, Carol and Bradley

My thoughts. (we are only fishing the second date due to being on holiday the first date) I think it would be a great thing for the kids to fish close together as long as the weather conditions are OK. Unfortunately, my son is nervous of chop and large swell. I think it would make sense not to be too far out because of the restricted fishing time. Also, we (Marlin) would have to get the 08.30 twin bridges which means we won't be able to get out to the bay until around 09.30. We will then meet up with the rest of the boats if that's what's to be. There is no way we could get the 07.30 bridges as that would mean we would have to get my son up at 06.00. He would be good for nothing by 10.00!! I would also like him to be awake for the BBQ!! We are happy to fish any rules. Greg.

Hi Sam My son Bradley would also like to enter the competition on our boat Marlin. However, we are unavailable on the 27th July but can make the 24th August. As a possible solution would he be able to fish a half day prior to the 24th August and document his catch to count as the first competition day? Greg.
