A top tip from Mark at Alderney Angling was that Garfish strip was working well too. Rich: Do you put a small ball lead on the trace for Turbot? Tom

Common term in the industry referring to white silicon sealant or sikaflex. Monkeyspu@k (yes you guessed right). Tom

I have a set of Bennetts and they are simply self tapped onto the hull with a splat of monkey spu@k to seal the area. The pressure isn't realy on the tab itself, more on the ram with the force pushing up.

Hi Paul They are set very low. I hope they do the job, but look like you could be about to shout "DIVE DIVE DIVE" and do a submarine commander impression. Tom

If anyone is interested I am selling for someone a Seagull 5Hp Outboard. Old heavy lump that is apparently in good working order. No history known, no guarantee's or warranties given. A runner or not, it is a bit of fun and something to tinker with.

Fingers crossed on that weather Adam! Don't mind rain, just the wind is a problem! No curries in the Marie Hall!!!!

Thank you oh wonderous Internet Gods. I am not worthy of your gracious forgiveness and kindness. Martin, I promise to try not to stick a members boat or any other boat on the mud, sand, rock, shingle or any other substrate ever again. In addition I shall try not to run out of fuel, hit ropes or other underwater objects, go to sea without a VHF (or mobile inshore), safety equipment, or unseaworthy vessel. That said, I cannot guarantee against breakdowns, minor leaks or rattly bits on uncommissioned boats.

Please revise that last comment! The MF655 is being collected tomorrow morning. In order of those who first asked: Duncan, Coddy, Adam, Paul and then anyone else. If you would like to come with me for a jaunt, we can take upto two others (truck space), then please post here to confirm. You will need to be at Salterns at 07:15 tomorrow morning. Myself and Nick Trainer (Trim Tab man) are towing a MF625 back to Universal Marina in his L200 Crew Cab. I shall be getting dropped off to bring the 655 back to Salterns. All things being equal and no serious hold ups I would like to be back at Salterns between 11:00 and 12:00. Please post here if you want to come. Tom

Hi Allan It was just frustrating to go so far for a tough day between 4 of us. The only consilation was I think all the boats were scratching a little. Don't get me wrong, we were catching, just not as many or as big as normal with the biggest frustration being the sounder was marking stacks of fish all around the wrecks. Tabs were great. They took a little getting used to, but make for a much more comfortable ride when all the weight is at the back. They don't enhance speed or economy greatly (marginally better), but do make life more comfy and short arses can now see where they are going when onboard. Tom

Quote: Guess I'd rather make a numpty of myself here than "on air".... You and me both Mark! I would normally try and find out if anyone else is out by posting on here the night before. Then you can call them up individually. Incidentally: 06 is the PBSBAC preferred channel, but out from Weymouth we tend to use 08. Tom

Stoney Island? errrr, Where's the Haven?

How long must I live with this cruel name? So unfair, so unjust after just one small mistake that most her have done... ...and a few more than once!

Quest II ventured out with several plans this morning, but number 1 was to see if the met office was right about the 4 to 5 occ6 Westerly. Nudging passed the Bill and the flood race all seemed well and 25ish miles out (due South and just in club waters) it was really rather pleasant with a light Westerly 3 pushing a few lollopy waves passed us as we set up for the first drift over our chosen wreck. Three or four drifts later and just one small Pollock of about 7lb we decided to head South East with the flood to the next mark, another wreck in about 210 feet of water. First drift and running at 3 knots, 3 of the 4 crew all hit into good fish the best nudged 14lb and the smallest was around 10lb. "Great" we thought, we've made it big on this one. Then nothing. After several fruitless drifts we moved on further East to another, then another wreck, picking up the odd fish here and the odd fish there. The chatter on the VHF and a quick conversation with Mr Caines suggested we were doing nothing wrong, it was just one of those days. Interestingly the biggest Pollock were taking large fish baits aimed at Ling and dropped hard on the bottom, tight behind the metalwork, with the Stormies worked on flying collars taking just a couple of double figure fish. As the tide slackened, the wind picked up to what had been forecast and the white horses began to show with more frequency so we veered North West and picked our way back via a couple more wrecks towards Weymouth. Tried a couple of wrecks with no names that were marked on the plotter and again the same story, "the odd Pollock here and there" and as we approached the Shambles we set up with anticipation over "Adam's Wreck". Not a suasage, or even a fish! Despite plenty of fish showing all around the wreck on the sounder we just could not get a hit so we settled for one long drift along the Shambles to use up our Ling baits. A tangle between myself and one of the others marked the end of the drift and at the end of the "knitting" was the smallest Turbot I have seen in ages. Probably no more than a pound the size of a small dinner plate and picture perfect. Tally for the day: About 12 Pollock, smallest about 5lb, largest about 14lb 1 very small Turbot 0000 Ling Tom

Hi Mark Glad you had a good run on the boat despite naff fishing. Yes, we'll get the wipers sorted, sounds like it is linked with the switch panel issue...? Well done for giving her a proper first run. Tom

Paul XC Weather has always been some 5 to 10mph out for ages. I think it gives minimum wind strength as it is for paragliders not boaters.....?
-
Quest II has a crew of four heading off to tomorrow from Weymouth at 06:30! With conflicting forecasts (looks windier inshore) we aim to head way off South in search of Pollock and Ling, but have the back-up of coming in if the weather is dodgy and fishing Adam's special mark off the Shambles. Inshore Waters is giving 4 to 5 occ 6 West ish through the day backing later to 3. Shipping (mid channel) is giving 3 to 4 all day West ish which will be fine. XC which has seemed to underestimate stuff as far back as I can remember is giving 3 just touching 4 all day. Fingers crossed for a catch report that just squeezes into club waters although we may slip a tad to the West if that is where the fish are. Tom

Well they didn't find it funny at wsf.com and have removed it until the reference to "reefers" is given Mike Snr's approval! I thought Reefers were people that boat fished but not over wrecks.....? Tom
-
Hi Kam It doesn't work brilliantly on our home page, but is quite amusing on others. You can go to http://www.gizoogle.com and translate any sites homepage into this weird talk.

Cracking job mate! What top inshore fishing!!! Are we talking the same wreck as before? How much lead needed? Stormies? ...if so I am tempted to get the super duper light spinning rod out and trying that. Top fun! Well done Tom PS: Did any of the Pollock return OK or was it still too deep for them? I love catching the damn things, but would love to find a way of putting most of them back...
