There is a special meeting of the RSAG group being held at the SIFCA offices to discuss this. This represents anglers and charter boats (and by virtue of the membership- tackle shops). Please bear in mind why the potential for restrictions is even being discussed. We have all witnessed a decline in stocks in our lifetimes, and notably and significantly in the past 10 years. These sites have been identified as being some of the last and best refuges and crucial sites (nesting sites, nurseries etc) of our favourite species. We all argue that restrictions are required, and for equity those restrictions must apply to everyone (we have argued for exactly that with regards to Bass, and dislike it when that isn’t the case). Like Charlie said earlier, we have moaned that there have been no restrictions on the existing MCZ’s. We moan about the beam trawlers. We moan about the nets. Like it or not, we are seen as contributing to the general decline of fish stocks, along with the trawlers, the nets, the microplastics, the ocean warming and acidification... and like it or not, as much as we practice C&R and all the good things, it is correct, we are an additional (small?) pressure on stocks. There’s no point putting in restrictions on sites that don’t have anything living on them, or at times when the species are somewhere else. We have to protect the sites where the fish live, when they are there, so that future generations will be able to see with their own eyes what a Bream/Bass/Wrasse/Ray/Dogfish looks like. Yes, proposing things like C&R on these sites are things that we can do. Realistically though, these type of ‘good behaviours’ are the things that responsible anglers (like us) already do, but the sites can’t be designated as ‘nice anglers only’. Equally those people that ignore good practices now, will ignore restrictions in the future, so any new regulations MUST be backed up be effective monitoring and enforcement, or they will be pointless. Again, frankly, the SIFCA have a lot of water to cover with very little resources to do so, and this is one reason for the lack of regs on the original MCZ’s. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Please see below for information regarding the photographing and/or measurement of catch and release Bass: Hello everyone Defra and the MMO have provided me with the following statement with regards to the weighing/photographing of bass under the current regulations which require, “immediate release” of bass caught recreationally. This is an issue which was raised with us by anglers and therefore required clarification. The main intention of the European Regulations, which restrict landings of bass, is to protect the stock for the long-term sustainability of the fishery. The current rules in place for recreational fishers and angling for bass are limited to catch and release only throughout 2018. This means that any bass caught during 2018 must be returned immediately. This applies if you are fishing from a boat or from the shore. We have been made aware of the confusion this has raised within the recreational angling sector where fish are usually weighed and photographed, during competition conditions, for example. We are able to clarify that for enforcement purposes we interpret the term ‘immediately’ to mean as soon as practicable to maximise the chance of survivability. During any inspection it would be the responsibility of the individual to demonstrate this and to assist enforcement officers in determining that this is the case. We would encourage angling competition organisers to ensure that competition rules explicitly include provisions to promote an effective catch-and-release process which encourages competitors to adhere to safe and careful fish handling techniques, and to encourage fish being returned to the sea as soon as reasonably practicable after capture. It would be helpful if you could inform your local clubs and competition organisers. We will be including this in the next Sea Update email to our members. Have a very Happy Easter. Jim, this is so that you can see photos that others have posted on the forum using photobucket, for example on old posts that you might want/need to refer back to. Lofty used photobucket a lot in his posts for instance, but if you look at one of the old posts, particularly via a web browser, you won’t be able to see the photos because Photobucke5 have c*cked around with how they let others see photos that they host. Seemed to be a complete pain in the arse to try and get a tip ring ring which was both good quality and the right size. Veals kit was out of stock, and I didn't want to get a big kit and end up with a box of tip rings that didn't fit any of my limited selection of rods... On the Bream Comp(s) on Sunday, I discovered that my Rapala, up to 50lb, digital scales have packed up. Put in a new battery- still no joy. Had a nice relaxed day aboard Free Spirit with Graham (Bramble banker) and we started by motoring around to Dancing Ledge. Although the sea state was lovely as forecasted, that flippin' easterly wasn't, and before long we'd dug out the extra layers we had with us and I was shivering until I found my nice warm fleece hat, last seen December 2014... We had a slow time, but found the target species at least. My biggest was 1lb 2oz, and Graham's was of a similar size. Off to Ballard at slack, in time for the sun to come out, and the layers to come off. Didn't get a single bite there, but I did have a little kip in the sunshine! A blast in the Pirate 21 back to Cobbs, then over to the Liberal Club for the PSAC weigh-in.
