  2. As you are all probably aware, a good friend of mine Alan Tompsett passed away recently.

I am currently helping to sort out the sea fishing tackle that Al has accumulated over the years, so am looking to sell rods and reels.

These are all good quality, in most cases as good as new ( an in some cases still new ).

I have put the price I am looking for against each item.

I will bring all the rods and reels to a club meeting, if not already sold or feel free to contact me to view / purchase.

Also, if anyone is looking for a 10.6 metre Swiftcat with just over 1 year old outboards ( 2x300 HP Yamaha ) and all new marine electronics ( Simrad Evo 3 ), then let me know as Manta Ray is up for sale. She is immaculate.

@FourT4 on twitter and he is in my friends list on FB.

They have a website you can check out.

  4. Really sad to hear this. I always will remember going over to Alderney with Chris on TigerLily on my first ever charter trip with the club. Chris always had time for us small boat anglers. A true gent and friend of the club. Will be sadly missed.

  5. Hi Rich - long time no see.

I was well pleased with the E-Tec, I had no problems with the engine at all.

PJ has the same model as I had and I know he had issues with the EMU but was fine after he had it replaced.

The servicing costs for my old Honda was partly the reason I went for the E-Tec.

my friend has a 130 E-Tec on his Orkney and is well happy with his too.

It seems to be the people who dont have them that knock them.

  6. Caught a nice Undulate Ray and lost an eel due to poor knot tying on my part :(

Was hard fishing but one of my work colleagues managed a nice sized cod in the afternoon.

Ripped down all day but usual banter on Manta Ray made for a fun day.

Back out tomorrow ( wed ) as got week off, so cod attempt 3 ....

  7. Got a trip on Manta Ray on Sunday along with some guys from work. Planning on going to the car park out to the Needles, hoping the wind stays from the north.

Just busy waterproofing my flotation suit as suspect it will need to be rainproof !

Have stocked up with Cuttle from CAC and unwashed squid, hopefully will be able to find the elusive cod as haven't caught one for over a year now ( although actually getting out fishing helps ;) )

  8. Coming back in at night is even more interesting, especially when there is a bit of a swell running.

I used to plot the track out and place waypoints en-route so when coming back in the dark I could then follow a route in.

Best method was to get the track and go for it ! - not for the faint hearted :)

  9. I would like to see the Cod comp re-scheduled but not at the expense of the flounder comp.

Mind you, I would do well to actually get out to fish it, but would be an incentive to go

    fishing.

Seems a shame not having any winner for the trophy.

BTW: Many smaller boats fished in the Solent and got amongst the cod on Sunday. In the past we had more trailered boats and I recall fishing our cod comp in the Solent ( and catching ), so for the trailerable boats this is always a good option in worst weather. ( Mind you we had much nicer weather further out than was inshore on Sunday )

  10. Orkney 520,s have 35HP max in the CE plate, yet you used to be able to buy them with 40hP engines from the main dealers who were in Lymington BHG marine.

I actually queried with Orkney, BHG and with my insurance company ( amlin ) and had no problems at all.

So I fitted a 40Hp ETEC and was the best move I made, transformed the boat. Just have to avoid using full throttle and then putting the boat into a tight turn while your crew of 4 are all on the same side of the boat ( I think the rating is related to the ability to capsize the boat, amongst other things )

Also it was possible to make her porpoise easily but once trim tabs were fitted, solved that issue.
