Steve, You will have no problems tripping an anchor with an Orkney Strikeliner. I have an Orkney 520 and use a 5 KG Bruce anchor with three thin black cable ties or two thicker white cable ties. They trip with a bit of force but I prefer to have to give it a little bit of wellie to trip the anchor rather than have the damn thing trip and drag along the seabed / rocks which is bound to occur when it is most inconvenient/dangerous.

Charlie, You definitely got mine - for what it was worth !! ( I have the reply from you to prove it ).

Just received last quarter's payment from Amazon and reminds me to let all know that if you order goods from Amazon could you please use the link from this site ( on the front page lower right ) or from the link on the swap and shop page. The club receive income from every purchase. Likewise, the adverts at the top of the forum and the Google search on site will also earn the club money and helps with the web site running cost, so click away on those ads ( some are actually quite useful ).

Have to agree, this is exactly what should happen when charging a lead/acid battery.

Looking like I will be out Saturday as well as Sunday.

Might get out Friday afternoon for a "pre-sortie", dependant upon getting home from work early enough. I will call to see how you got on.

Adam, Any ideas on decent marks to try ? - I am pondering over best plan of action for spring tide. Ledge, bridge, southbourne ? Decisions, decisions !
-
Duncan, I could be incorrect here, but I am 99% sure that Charlie uses ( or should I say used to use ) a CQR anchor ( ie. one with a swivelly bit on it ) and had it tripped. I am sure he will comment if this is the case !

Tom, I think you are spot on with regard to Web magazines. However, the problem will be getting them to pay for themselves. Currently it is too difficult to persuade people to part with cash in order to view web sites. Why pay when you can see stuff for free.

Terry, Try clearing your cookies and then access the site from the www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums link. Saying that, I was logged off at work. Reason is I have removed some old redundant pages. The site is attacked on a pretty regular basis ( like twice per day ).
-
Gordon, I guess, unlike my wife, yours doesn't read the forum
-
Rich, Terry is correct, it is probably your temp internet files. I am so glad we got you the AVG scanner in time. Mike, Let me know how you get on. I had zonealarm and got fed up with it. Microsoft have a firewall built into Windows XP SP2 , so surprised they are advising to use Zonealarm.

Gordon, I am now looking at Sunday as my crew member is unable to make Saturday ( also weather now looking good for Sunday - I wish it would make its mind up !! ). So Harry, if you want to buddy up from Christchurch on Sunday, I will be there. Fancy Sunday Gordon ?
-
Yes - but you aren't an admin anymore
-
Mike, Try clicking on the link below and you should get a prompt to run. This is the AVG installation program AVG virus scanner Normally I wouldnt recommend anyone to run an executable directly like this but trust me it is the genuine link. PS: and relax, it's only a PC
-
No need to worry. Just finished patching the forum to hopefully prevent a re-occurance.
-
Charlie, The e-mail address you refer to is :- wchapman212@ntlworld.com
-
Forgot to mention. The e-mail DID NOT get sent by any "legitimate" means from this site. If you receive any e-mails which claim to come from this site and link to some obscure URL which has nothing to do with this site, then for sure they will be bogus.
-
Harry, How about Saturday ? - Weather forecast is superb. ( Although I might be persuaded to go out Sunday possibly ). I will go out from Wick, or possibly Lymington if smoothies are being reported ( yet to check tides ) but hoping for an earlyish start ( 8 AM ish ).

If you only had the problem when accessing this forum, then it is fixed. If you still have a problem, get a virus scanner ( which you should have anyway ). AVG Free found and sorted no problem. If you still have a problem let me know and I will see what I can do.
-
Tom, The web site is fixed ( for now ) - I am working on beefing up the security, so beware in next couple of days as they could have another go at the site. I recommend AVG Free for those without virus scanners. ( using a PC on the internet is akin to driving without brakes ... ) AVG link PS: I was going to post a link to the executable - but I wouldnt trust this myself !
-
Well, it is worst than that. The site was actually hacked ..... The forum templates were "modified" and my account was used to mass mail members. It is a trojan link that was sent. Nasty - I am trying to work out how they compromised the IPB security. The forum template is "unhacked" now, but be careful for the time being. There are some saddos out there I am afraid....

Nice early start 6 AM and off to Weymouth. At slipway meet up with Blue Warrior, Dawn Raider,Sammy and Maverick ( Enticer had already gone I think ). Parked car and a lovely flat sea to steam out. Headed for an inshore wreck to learn from Gordon how to drift for Pollock. Maverick came over to try out some of the action. After around 10 drifts were both got into fish at the same time. Two pollock onboard. Further drifts produced nothing though, so headed for "Lulworth" to fish some banks where Enticer was fishing. Anchored up on a bank next to Enticer and Gordon had a doggie first drop. Then all was quiet for what seemed an age. Gordon then had a Cuckoo Wrasse and I tweaked out a doggie. ( Even dogfish hard to find ) Sat it out through the remainder of the flood and then headed back for the wreck. This time anchored the wreck and had a pout. Was hoping for some eels, but nothing showing. It then starts getting really interesting. Enticer comes over for some drifts and while they are present this large MCA Survey vessel ( Confidante registered in Kirkwell ) steams over straight at us. They then proceed to drift right in front of my boat and are fishing from the back of the boat. What is even more astounding is they just carried on fishing whilst drifting straight over toward my boat - I had to manoueuvre the boat whilst at anchor in order to avoid being hit by the idiot. One of the guys fishing then decides he had better go up front and tell the "captain" that he needs to move as he has almost hit us. MCA are supposed to be responsible for safety at sea - unbelievable - I shall be filing a complaint for sure. ( and Mark B and Rich witnessed the whole thing - even sounding their air horn as well - I broke mine in the panic to take action ). After this sorry event, had no more fish, so belted back to the Hood ( 21 knots as I kept telling Gordon ). Few drifts of the Hood, lost my gear, so stopped fishing then. Raced Blue Warrior, Dawn Raider and Enticer back across Portland harbour. 23.5 knots flat out. Trim tabs working well now and boat nicely balanced. Fun ( if eventful ) day - it had everything ( my first wreck Pollock, speeding around in flat conditions and a little bit of terror thrown in ! )
