  1. Adam, It is actually quite clever, if you log on as a guest then you are completely unaware that this forum page exists. In the top level ( ie. Bits and Boats ) it shows the last message posted in that forum. If you log on as a member ( ie. registered user ) then you can see the trailaway section and if the message is later in that section it appears as the lastest message. Could be useful for other parts of the forum, which we want to keep away from unregistered users. ( I can think of other uses which will discuss some other time ! ) For further security, you can also password protect a forum. regards Paul
  2. Adam, It is a sub link. Only visible to registered forum users. ( ie. Not registered, then cannot use it ). It can be changed if you wish, but let me know what you / others think
  3. Adam, It can be added. But do we want it as a sub page under trip planning ( which is where I personally would put it - in a similar manner to catch report pictures ). I will create one under trip planning for now, but Martin may wish to move it somewhere else. I will also spell Commodore correctly regards Paul
  4. Found a very useful article on how to re-pack trailer bearings. Bearing Replacement / Repacking
  5. Not so sure about the forecast though Windguru forecast
  6. Bob, No chart, but I would STRONGLY advise getting one - ( hmm Isn;t that what you were doing anyway ! ). If anyone wants one, I can get one at the same time as mine if you let me know.
  7. Adam, No problem, it is well deep there ( was high tide ) and the slip is well steep - hard to see that on the pics. Havent looked at the forecast for the weekend yet, but it was bloody cold up there this lunchtime !

    boat theft

Mark, Presumably all this was done in view of the web camera ?? Amazing.
  9. Went for a "reccy" to see the slipway today. It was about 1 1/2 hours past high tide and the current was just starting to run. Not too bad - a bit like Wick ( except appears steeper and I can see what Charlie means re: shingle. ) Nice huge car park next door and my friend's boat is in the marina dead opposite - small world eh ! Learnt all about "the blocks" and if you don't know what they are and how to navigate them, then I suggest you learn I was unaware they were a huge barracade against submarines and there are two passing places - the one we would use is right near the shoreline at Southport. Apparently the blocks are visible at low tide and it would be advisable not to hit them !?! Pics of slipway attached

    Useful Links

Whilst surfing I came across this site for Bristol Channel Angling. It shows where to launch small boats, with nice piccies and descriptions of the slipways. Could be useful. Small Boat Launch Sites in Bristol Channel
  11. On the Man overboard theme and whilst checking the web site was on a search engine, I came across the following link. Very interesting article on small boat safety. Small Boat Safety

    MOB!!!!!!!!

Must learn to type faster - seem to have been beaten to the "tether point" !!

    MOB!!!!!!!!

Adam, I have often pondered the same thing. Especially when out by myself and son/daughter. If I fell over would she know what to do ? I think the best thing is "prevention rather than cure". The lifejacket I wear ( and I do wear one as I am a terrible swimmer ! ) has a harness attachment. I have thought the best thing to do is to attach yourself to the rail of the boat using this. ( I say thought, because I have not done this, but if night fishing, I think I would do this. ) Also, I have considered getting a small pack of "personal" flares as in your other article. Then it will be a case of waiting to be picked up. ( In the colder months - Flotation suit preventing death by cold until then ! ) However, apart from wearing a lifejacket ( and flotation suit when it is not summer ), I have not tied myself to the boat, nor have I got a personal set of flares. Improvement to be had there I think !! Still, there are many others who would be worst off. Just count the numbers out fishing without lifejackets and/or flotation suits ..... Strong swimmer or not, they would not last long if they fell over in any fast flowing or cold water. Another thing I often think of, is once you have caught up with your MOB, how do you get them back in the boat ?? - Easy on a boat like Bob's as he has a ladder at the back, but on mine it is hard enough getting in standing in the water, let alone when being rescued - any tips here ? Also, I have wondered if any boats have managed to "mow down" the person they are trying to rescue - surely this has happened in the past ?
  14. Bob, I have ordered some books from Amazon ( am I still the only one to be buying stuff through the site ??? ) - you might like to get yourself a copy of this one :- Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed The World

    Adam, Do you mean
  16. Bob, I have let my friend know that it may be Plaice fishing or maybe not. Let me know when you make your mind up lol Seriously, as soon as you know, let me know as I would like to take the boat "for a spin" but not as far out as Nab Tower ( until the summer ). Now if I were to get a bigger boat ...... hmmm regards Paul
  17. Bob, Very interesting article and well written. What fish will be next ? - Sea Bream ? or Plaice ?
  18. Bob, I really should have read your post before buying tackle to catch the plaice Also, I should have read it before arranging with a friend of mine to fish with me !?! Presumably, I will have to un-arrange if the Nab Tower is chosen ( no problem ).When will you know which option is the "chosen one" as I will need to let him know ? regards Paul

That's handy - I've got relatives in Southend.
  20. Rownhams services as DavidUK says are 1/2 mile after junction 3 ( The M271 junction ). The services entrance is halfway up the hill - you can't miss it - its marked services From your description Bob, it has just dawned on me that the part that says "on your left you see a marina" is the exact marina that my friend at work keeps his boat in !! - Southsea Marina I am pretty sure it is called. I went with him to see his boat the other week and almost know the way off the top of my head. I will get down there in the week to check it out. BTW: Coming from the M27 direction you merge onto the A27 and the junction we want is the first one. Follow directions to Portsmouth Football ground and then you turn left just before reaching it. ( I go past the turning every day to work ).
  21. If you want to buy anything from Amazon ( ie. Books / DVD / Video etc. ) then please use the link at the top of the forum here to go to Amazon. This way the club will earn referral fees which will help to pay for the web site. regards Paul PS: In the next few weeks, I will be picking selected items from Amazon Eg. Available now :-
