  1. Box arrived from Tackle Bargains today. So delivered within 2 days. I ordered some mackeral traces. They are the fladen ones you see in tackle shops. 5 for
  2. Boatfix Site - Standard Horizon plotters $748.68 + VAT + Duty + shipping
  3. 1 week and 6 days to go .....
  4. I had the same problem working out the import duty. I found it eventually on some EU web site which also lists all the taric numbers Duty Rates Anyhow, like you I found out they are 3.7 % There is currently increased imort duty on certain items from the states ( Nuclear reactors, honey, friges, roller skates - but not GPS or fishfinders yet, thank god ! ) US "trade war" I currently have my GPS/plotter unit awaiting collection by a friend ( saves me the shipping costs ) who will then pay the duty at Heathrow. I have a friend in the states who is willing to accept deliveries for me. We could order in bulk for the club and then I could go to New York and collect the items . There are savings to be had here. BTW: You may find you receive a bill for the import duty at a later date ( but this usually comes at the same time as the bill for the VAT and is collected by Royal Mail/ParcelForce ) regards Paul
  5. Duncan, I see the confusion ( and it is mine ! ). When I say
  6. Duncan, No discount on the published prices. We do, however, earn the club 5% on everything ordered ( assuming they pay up of course ! ).
  7. Duncan, I have just ordered 300 yards of the Ghost Green braid ( 25 lb BS ).
  8. Thanks Bob, I will let you know on Thursday. BTW: I won't begin to mention what altavista came back with when I searched for maxximus
  9. I am in a dilema as to what rod /reel combinations to take for the Alderney trip. Between myself and my friend who is going I have two 7ft 20 lb TC Daiwa rods and one 30 lb TC Penn Commander rod. ( no uptider rod yet ) I am thinking that something a little "stiffer" will be needed for mid channel wrecking, but given that after Alderney I will be doing little of this, then I don't; want to be coughing up huge amounts on a rod I will hardly use. I am thinking of getting a Suvern Pro Boat Rod 12-20 lb TC for sea bream etc. in Christchurch with a TLD 15 reel. Presumably this will be OK for Alderney for light fishing or should I get the 20-30 lb TC rod - ideal for those huge cod next year ?!? This leaves a heavier rod still being required - so I was thinking of using something cheaper - Mitchell Riptide 10-40 lb ? Any suggestions ?
  10. Adam, I thought much the same. I am looking for a Suveran Pro Boat rod and they don't do them. They do circle hooks though .....
  11. In the left hand nav bar on the main site you will note a link to TackleBargains.co.uk. If you order anything from this site USING THE LINK from this site, then the club will earn 5% comission from purchase. Tacklebargains Link If anyone orders items form them, could you post on the forum as to how good delivery was etc.
  12. Berkeley Whiplash is the braid I have been using and I am well pleased with it. I also tried the Penn braid ( blue coloured ) but this is not in the same league.

    VHF / DSC Radio

That was my suspicion, ( that as the USA version was not CE approved it could not be fitted ). I opted for the ICOM 401Euro for this reason ( too much hassle otherwise ). GPS Plotters on the other hand ......

    VHF / DSC Radio

Bought the radio from mesltd.co.uk and I see what you mean re: competitive prices !! Another site to add to the collection of "good service" sites. Radio was ordered on the net on Tuesday and arrived today Thursday. Perhaps we should have a section for recommended sites ( and "avoid" sites ) ? Looking at the manual and it would appear that the M-401Euro ( UK and Italy version ) has the american channels as well...... Therefore, perhaps the M402 is fine for use over here as well ? - As it is only

Adam, I have a friend at work who has a Day Angler. I am sure he would give you a look around if you wish ( Langstone Harbour though ).

    VHF / DSC Radio

Due to lack of funds I have plumped for the mono plotter with integral fishfinder The Garmin 188 with fishfinder and transponder for $608.00 - The colour model is around $1100 I will need to buy the South Coast map for greater detail which stretches from north of the Thames to Cornwall ( $199.00 ) Therefore with Import Duty and VAT the total cost for the plotter will be around $790 ( ie. approx

    VHF / DSC Radio

Bob, There was me thinking it was all quite simple !! I have seen the XM DSC radio. I am still wondering if you are allowed to import the american marine radios, since they have all international channels but also 10 american specific ones - interesting question, but if I knew you could import for sure I would buy the ICOM 402 today. The ICOM 401 Euro it will have to be for now I think unless I find out you can import the 402. The plotter, I am tempted to go for the Garmin GPS Map 188 with an integral depth sounder. $583 having shipped around - colour is much more, but I just want something easy to read to get in/out at night. decisions, decisions !!

    VHF / DSC Radio

Definitely a good time to buy. I have also been looking at the ICOM VHF radio's in the states and they have a slightly different model number, but whereas the ICOM M401Euro has a DSC capability at a cost of around

    VHF / DSC Radio

Adam, Thanks for the help. I am currently working out the Import Duty costs from the USA and given that certain GPS Plotter models work out half the price, I am convinced that getting one delivered in the states and brought back is the way to go. Watch this space !!

    VHF / DSC Radio

My current VHF radio has seen better days. so I am now in the market for a new VHF radio ( obviously ruling any advice from Alun out ). Given that I also want to get a fixed GPS unit ( possibly a chart plotter ) as well, then funds for the radio are limited Is the Silva S10 DSC at

    Chartplotters

Tempting, but would be tricky to persuade them to bring more than one of these I would guess, since they could be liable for the import duty. ( From the web site you will definitely get clobbered for this - I even had to pay import duty on two DVDs form the states - with DVDs all depends upon if you get lucky or not). However, I can only but ask if anyone is interested and then it will just be a case of finding out when someone is coming over/ going out. ( I inow one person who is going out very soon ). For small items ( line / hooks and even reels ) I think there should be no problem.
  24. Bob, If you e-mail me the picture ( Some reasonm I can only save as .bmp ) then I will add this to the "members fish" pages if you like.
  25. I thought someone would say that Unfortunately I ate the previous ones
