  1. Another thought I have just had. My GPS shows a legend stating it is capturing the WAAS signal ( which is really the EGNOS signal ). Does a Garmin GPS bought in this country state that is capturing the EGNOS signal ( ie. WAAS replaced by EGNOS ) ? My money is on it stating WAAS still.
  2. Maybe a bit petty Bob, but my Garmin was made in Taiwan !! I suspect pete was referring to my "faus pas" when I stated the WAAS signal was blocked by my house. ( It would be as the satellite is halfway around the other side if the world as well ) Of course I meant the EGNOS signal.
  3. That's debatable - badger, badger, badger ...... !! You carry on chasing the sharks and I'll carry on hauling them cod

    Insurance

Interesting article in Boat Fishing Monthly on Insurance ( I got this first time this weekend having heard it talked about and have to say what a good magazine it is ). Apparently Armada Insurance give preferential rates to members of recognised boat fishing clubs. Has anyone tried them at all ? There is even a contact and phone number. There is also a very interesting articel on the Warrior 165.
  5. Found an even better link - page is still under development, but shows the status of the EGNOS signal. Mode 2 is currently in use, so all OK as of when I typed this !! EGNOS broadcast status
  6. Bob, According to the link they are using a "type 0" test signal which may not be compatible with all GPS receivers. However, this will be a non issue in April when the system goes live. I cannot check if my Garmin is receiving the WAAS test signal yet ( and/or works with it ), because the satellite carrying the correction signal is near the equator and the house is between my boat and this !!

    Boat HPI Check

What do you mean MAY owe you a trip No problem, I was as stunned as you probably were to stumble across a Warrior 165 sitting there when I went for a quick look. If you are towing her back on a week day afternoon/evening, then let me know and I will be more than happy to follow you back home from work.

    Boat HPI Check

Adam, Assuming this is the one you saw at the place I told you ( nudge nudge wink wink then you will be OK, since you are buying through a broker, so if the boat is stolen you will be able to claim your money back from them. ( Your contract is between you and the broker ). At least that is the way I undertstood it - unless anyone knows different ....
  9. Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter,Nutter....... What really worries me is my kids were going around the house chanting badger,.badger !!!
  10. Forum to start and then if it get used I will design a web page for it. All sound good ?
  11. Bob, A review column as in within the forum or a review area on the main web site. ( Forum one is easier to set up ) ?

    UK Hooks

How strange, I have just bought a Calcutta
  13. Bob, I can also make Saturday and will have boat + me, so room for Dave Mayne, but like Adam and Martin, I am convinced looking at my fav. Waveguru site that the weather is conspiring against us once again.
  14. The above book is actually really interesting. It is more a history book, but has some astounding facts in it ( such as detailing how Cod was that numerous in Canada in the past that they were caught by lowering baskets ). It is actually quite depressing when you read how the fisheries were decimated off Newfoundland. Very eye opening book. The Hooked on Bass book above I have as well and this was co-authored by Mike Ladle, who you may remeber gave a talk at the club meeting. This is a must have for Bass anglers ( in my opinion ). Does anyone think it a good idea to have a review column in the forum, so users can write short reviews of books / videos they have bought ( and we can add a link to the item to allow it to be bought ) ???
  15. I know, I kept looking at it thinking that there must be some way in..... But there isn't as far as I can see. There are also two huge concrete blocks which the council place across the entrance when/if travellers turn up. That is the reason for the 6ft height limit I presume. Shame really as it is a perfect slip for fishing Langstone Harbour.

    boat theft

But didn;t you do that in Tara as well ???? ( Perfect storm trip )
  17. I suddenly realised I work right near a slipway into Langstone Harbour. Brockhampton Slipway. So stopped off on the way to work to check it out. Good news is that the slipway is huge and nice concrete. The bad news is that it is at th end of Langstone Harbour, so a long way out. The really bad news is the 6FT barrier preventing any vehicles over 6ft form entering !!! The latter is not mentioned on boatlaunch.co.uk, so I have let them know and you are contemplating using this slip, then make sure your boat on trailer is less than 6ft high or ......
  18. Bob, Portsmouth times are :- 11:06 and 23:33 High tide 04:23 and 16:43 Low tide. So I presume launch at around 10:00 and come back around 17:00 ( ish ). I dont; know the time difference for Eastney. Also, the tides are real big, so the current flowing past the slipway will be strong between tides.
  19. Martin, Saturday is good, but my friend I was going to fish with won't be able to make Saturday. ( Sure I will find someone else though ! )
  20. Is there any chance of making the trip Sunday 21st March ?? Upside is the tides are BIG ( I am reliably informed by Paul J ) and hopefully the weather will be better ( calm spell coming up by the looks of things ). Downside is it is mother's day !
  21. That will be it then, I knew I was going wrong somewhere !!
  22. GPS/Sounder now installed, The transponder is somewhat larger than the one I replaced. .I had gone for the internal antenna model, but wish I had got an external antenna ( especially as my cuddy has already been drilled where a GPS aerial was previously mounted ). Anyhow, the satellites are detected from my driveway ( which is quite obscured ), although the WAAS/EGNOS signal cant be seen from the driveway - I assume this is up and running ( according to the web site it is "Live" in April ) Christchurch Harbour and River Avon are on the map provided ( along with the A31 ) !! - A Bluechart is definitely going to be my next purchase though. Well pleased, especially as I actually had the total cost in the post earlier wrong. The VAT and Duty was
  23. Moi ( provided it all works OK ) . Good news re: warranty as well, according to user manual if needed you can take it to the Garmin centre here ( in Romsey ). I shall defnitely get other stuff this way. Only glitch was the customs at Heathrow were apparently not very efficient. My work colleague was kept waiting there for 15 mins and they had trouble operating the till !!
  24. Bob, I fully agree. I looked at the forecast and have almost already decided not to go. Anyhow, I can now fit the GPS to the boat ( But also have to fit kitchen lights etc. ) Paul
  25. I now have the GPS / Fishfinder Total cost :- Initial Cost :
