Friday afternoon / night was fantastic ( although we didn't find the larger bass. )
Launched for Christchurch at Low Water around 2 PM, no problem as the tides were so small.
Stopped to have a crack at the mullet but they werent having none of our spinners.
Saw Marineboy heading back in to collect Des and then back out after the bass. ( I am sure I saw a fly rod in use ).
We opted for Xray, so feathered up some bait ( well at least my crew Steve did ! ) and then over to Xray. After the usual bout of dogfish I had something bigger. A dogged fight with the ray ( which failed to go uptide, so I knew it had to be a small eyed ) . 8lb 2 oz Small Eyed Ray then landed.
Then Steve has a smaller one and I follow this up within the next 5 minutes with a bigger one which went 8lb 8oz.
Then I caught another Small Eyed which was fighting as if it were a bass ( most impressive ).
Fishing then quietened off, so we watched the trawer go past and then headed for the ledge.
Tried drifting with some live joeys but nothing showing, so off to fish a mark next to Enticer after the Eels. Saw another Raider out there who I thought was James ( but turned out it wasn't ). We had bells and lights to clip to our fishing rods which caused Gordon to phone up and aks if Morris Dancers were onboard
Steve had the best of the fishing at this mark with a reasonable Conger and a 3lb Bass while I stuck to clearing the area of dogfish. Then off to have a go at the sole ( might as well not have bothered though ).
Back up the run at 3-30 AM through the morning mist and back home at 5 AM.
Xray saved the day really, but first time I have night fished the ledge. Must give it another go sometime.
