Fished the Bass Comp with Paul Rowcliffe. As we wanted to get to the mark early and Christchurch would be too shallow to get out, opted for a Lymington launch. I also presumed that we would get plenty of shelter from the island. The race at Hurst was a little lumpy and we had trouble finding mackeral at first. However, once at the mark it was pretty calm. Was joined by Otter, Fugazi and Aquafresh later on. AWOL turned up later on the ebb. Watched the boys on Aquafresh show us how to fish again ! Still managed a single small bass . I suspect that we were not fishing deep enough though...., but everyone seemed to be struggling ( apart from the boys on Aquafresh and AWOL also seemed to do well. Impressive lightning display later on and as it looked like more rain would be coming and the sea might rough up - decided to head back to Lymo. Neo seemed to not be goping quite the speed she used to ( 18 knots flat out ) and a fair bit of wash was coing up from the starboard side. On retrieval at Lymington the cause was obvious. The trim tab was bent at a 45 degree angle. LW lauch at Lymo was obviously a little too low ! Paid for an annual launch pass at Lymington as they are collecting launch fees a bit more rigorously now. Nice day out though, good company and didn't get drenched as I thought might happen. Sea was pretty calm as well - presumably due to the Easterly and shelter from the island.
