Had day off work today ( having fished Friday to Sunday in the 48 Hr Comp as well ). Change of scenery today though. I went over to fish off my friend's boat WestRay out of Emsworth. Useful "pre-reccy" for the forthcoming trailaway, which can't come soon enough ( read on ... ) Launched at 9 AM and headed off for some mackeral. After 15 mins we had one single mackeral to show for our efforts. Decided to head to the "mark" ( which I have the numbers for now ;-) ) and pick down. Teeming with mackeral, so we both put one rod out each. One fishing squid for the Smoothies and one fishing Mackeral flapper for the Tope ( and doggies ! ). 10 mins in the squid rod has a bite which I hit and the fish headed south - trace then breaks - Increase in trace strengthg need I think - so up to 30 lb trace. Then it is Smoothhound after Smoothhound and these are good sized fish as well. Lost count how many we had but my back was aching. In between this we are catching Tope on the other rods - at one time I had Smoothie on one rod and tope on the other at the same time. Tope weren't the huge size we had last year though However, this time I had a nice Thornback Ray and an Undulate which decided to grab my finger when I tried to pull the hook from it with my hand - painful ! Steve had a beautiful Undulate as well. All the above action was on the ebb mainly. Tide turned and the flood didn't fish at all well. On the way back had a go at fishing a wreck in the harbour approaches but failed to find any fish - then off to the marina and a happy drive home. Sure beats working
  2. Very nice bream Dan. Definitely a candidate for the best bream of the year.

  4. Don't forget to report all your catches ( and it is worth reporting your best catch whatever ) by close of play on Sunday. ( I will be fishing on Sunday, so call on my mobile will do or PM if you cant get me ). 3 fish reported to date, one from a junior, one of unknown ( large ! ) size and my effort of not so big size.
  5. You could live to regret not entering when you catch a huge Undulate ray !
  6. I also fished somehwere else and caught nothing Had a small bass whilst winding in a squid type lure at XRay though, so they are starting to show. Nice Bass Trevor - first of many I am sure.
  7. I have no gripes splitting the catch reports into two - one for Common Smoothhounds and one for Starry Smoothhounds. The issue is what to do with the current record Smoothhound. If I caught a 6 lb common smoothhound tomorrow for example then I would be as justified in claiming this to be a club record as claiming a starry of 6lb was a club record ( as we do not know if the current record was a Common or a Starry ). I will propose that we record new fish from now as either Common or Starry ( the fact it is a club record or not is no big deal IMHO - the database will dig out the largest in each category ) and leave the "smoothhound" record as is until such time as either a Starry or Common beats it. re: Mullet - You may have noticed that I have already split these into separate categories for the catch reports.
  8. It is quicker I think. The sql server is based on the latest version of MySQL and I think the hardware for the servers is of a better spec. Certainly seems quicker here as well.
  9. Good outcome Mark.
  10. One of my favorite and most used rods is my 12-20lb Abu Conolon Pro - quite capable of wreck fishing with lures and equally at home fishing lighter for bream. A goopd allround rod and well made to boot. I have Shimano Charter Special and TLD reels as well as ABU 7000 and 6500 reels. The Shimano's give the impression of being sturdier than the ABU reels but I have yet to have a problem with either ( and I give them a hard time as well ! ). The ABU reels seem smoother than the Shimano's. I am happy with both though but a friend of mine managed to break my smaller ABU reel - so next time I went fishing I gave him my TLD20 which he would be hard pressed to break - it is like a winch ! Braid is a must IMHO - I started with mono and now fish exclusively with braid ( apart from bass floatfishing )
  11. Good to hear you had a good trip. Don't forget to report your fish on the catch reports page or by phone ( or at next meeting )
  12. Like the look of the ability to view the results using Google Earth ......
  13. I will be out with Gordon on Friday but will be looking for crew on Sunday. Any one interested ? ( It will be a later start as off to a party on Sat evening )
  14. I think the reason all smoothhounds were treated the same with regard to records was due to the fact that the NFSA specimen list has them listed at the same specimen weight. Personally, I cannot see any reason that the two cannot be separated. ( It is easy to distinguish the two ). One reason against ( which I don't subscribe to ) would be that at the time of capture some may not decide if they have a common smoothhound or a starry smoothhound. - In which case they wont be able to record their capture. Also, how do we know if the existing club record was for a common or a starry ? Discuss at Thurs meeting I would suggest. Mullet is a good example as I intend to propse these are separated, since they are no more difficult than rays ( skate ) to separate. ( method of capture is usually determinate - spinning a rag will only catch thin lipped, whereas ledgered bread will usually catch thick lipped ).
  15. As a guide I set up account using windows mail for maverick and the screen should look something like this
  16. As a guide I set up account using windows mail for maverick and the screen should look something like this
  17. Now click on Next to take you to the Mail Logon Screen from here you will be asked for your username and password that we supplied to you - ( note username included the "@pbsbac.co.uk" part ). This is to authenticate your identity, so that you can send and receive your e-mails. Make sure you type both your username and password correctly (including the case of the letters) as you will not be able to retrieve your e-mail otherwise. Now click Finish.
  18. Once you have entered your Full Name and Email address, you will be presented with a screen for setting up Outlook Express with your e-mail server. Make sure your incoming e-mail server is a POP3 server or it will not work correctly. Next you need to tell Outlook Express about the e-mail servers for sending and receiving e-mails. Simply enter in the Incoming e-mail server field the following: mail.pbsbac.co.uk Now enter your outgoing mail server name (please note there are additional steps required below to make your outgoing mail server work): mail.pbsbac.co.uk
  19. Enter name in window as follows :-
  20. In summary :- Instructions below on how to configure outlook express to send and receive e-mail using a club e-mail account Display Name = Your name Incoming POP3 server = mail.pbsbac.co.uk Outgoing SMTP server = mail.pbsbac.co.uk Incoming mail server accountname = ( one provided ) - eg. newuser@pbsbac.co.uk Incoming Server password = one provided Tick the "remember password checkbox " Outgoing Server requires authentication - tick this. ================================================ In Detail :- If you wish to send and receive e-mail on your WebFusion virtual server, you will need to configure your e-mail software to do this. We have used Microsoft Outlook Express for the purposes of this example. When you take out one of our virtual servers you are given at least one POP (Post Office Protocol) account, this is where all e-mail sent to you is located. To set up your pop account you must follow the procedure below
  21. As I have had the server moved, I need to setup all the e-mail accounts again. The upside is the new package provides the ability to view your e-mail using a web based browser. As each account is set up I will e-mail details of how to configure your Outlook Express and how to view your e-mail using the webmail facility. Any other club members want an e-mail account then let me know. ======================
  22. I will keep track of who is booked in for the 48Hr Comp on this thread or of course by calling me. So far we have :- Paul Frey Paul D Gordon Moore Duncan and Dave Andy Garret + ? Mark and Rich Neal and Vernon
  23. Last year I think the monies were collected after the comp, although booking in is required prior to the comp. This competition is particularily important as it is the first one to count for the BFM competition. We will need at least 10 anglers fishing, so the more the merrier. I shall be fishing some of the days.
  24. Also - you may noticed some of the earlier posts are missing - this is because I had to roll back to the last site backup.
