  1. Alun, I have Dean Burt on as crew. Rob Francis could well be interested I suspect.
  2. Anyone want to crew on Neo for the forthcoming Species Comp ? Will be launching from Wick at a reasonable hour PM me here or call on 07887 875964 cheers Paul
  3. Mike, I worded my note slightly incorrectly. What I was trying to say was Garmin have now ensured that you cannot buy a GPS from the USA as it wont have the inbuilt maps ( you can stiull get these separately ). This now ensures that we can still pay the high prices we do. ( Checkout the cost of the equivalent model in the USA with inbuilt US maps ).
  4. Mike, I love ( NOT ) the way Garmin introduce a GPS with built in maps for the UK and then only sell this in Europe, separately introducing a model in the USA with inbuilt maps of the US. No prizes for guessing which model is the cheaper !!
  5. Not sure of dates yet. Gordon ( Manic Moore ) is organising I think, I can't do the next 2 weekends after this one though, so hopefully sometime after that - presumably on the smaller tides. Would be great if you could do that Trevor.
  6. So if we find someone with a 4x4 to trail along with us then Eastney looks the best bet.
  7. Also Ferry Point Slipway on Hayling Island -
  8. Had a trip down to the marina my friend keeps his yacht in at Emsworth. Asked if they had facilities for say 5 or so members to launch. How much and is it possible ? Answer is
  9. The engine on her looks to be exactly the same one that Nipper had when he owned Enticer ( before ditching that engine for an E-Tec ). Enticer went well with that engine but the fumes and economy will be bad.
  10. Lets hope you are guessing correctly
  11. I will be needing crew, so shall I count on you as my crew ( could fit both of you onboard if you dont mind a little bit of a squeeze. )
  12. 2 Stroke 60HP engine will not be particulariy economical and the re-sale value of the old 2 strokes is less than then new generation engines. Personally, I would look for a package with a 4 stroke or with an E-Tec or Optimax engine or get the price knocked down.
  13. Web Based Score Sheet Downloadable Scoresheet However, just realised that the e-mail address is for the previous fish recorder. You will need to e-mail your scoresheet to webmaster@pbsbac.co.uk or fishrecorder@pbsbac.co.uk
  14. Totally agree - It was a flat calm day and as soon as the water chops up a bit it is back down to around 12 knots.

Steve, No trailaway date set yet ( Manic Moore is sorting this ). You are of course more than welcome to come down and help out - the more the merrier. ( and we will probably need all the help we can get ! )

As you probably guessed, I was using these as an example of how difficult it is to determine the weights without scales. Steve's Undulate was a shade over 10lb - much less than your 12lb to 14lb guess ( maybe they are thinner in the East ) = 20% to 40% error The Undulate Pete Russell is holding weighs 18lb 10oz - not a bad guess The Thornback I am holding weighs 9lb - much less than your 15lb guess = 66% error. Therefore scales are needed.
  17. Dont worry - Christchurch is always a good place to go out from for a Species hunt and I intend to give them a run for their money
  18. Put this one in your calendar ( and no need to weigh fish, so right up your street Mike ) Round 2 ++, 24th June ++ LW @ 1200 Neap tide Run as a species hunt using 2006 scoring system for points, then winner 20 points second 19 points etc for overall scores. This competition is the second qualifying one for the BFM competition, so please make every effort to fish this as we need at least 10 competitors ( and Nipper needs all the competition he can get ).
  19. Haven't owned a Warrior 165 but Adam F had one with a 60 HP engine and I think he considered it underpowered ( especially when my Orkney 520 went faster than it one day )

Mike, Before I divulge the weight of Steve's Undulate can you guess how heavy these two different fish are ? ( I feel a competition coming on )
  21. Mike, Nice fish indeed - however, they have both been recorded as Thornbacks. I presume from your notes that the smaller one was an Undulate ? I am still sceptical that an accurate estimate can be made by lifting the fish. ( I know I couldn't perform such a feat - and that fact alone would mean weighing "by hand" is not feasible). Of interest - in the Utopia report on here there is a picture of my friend Steve holding an Undulate Ray - how heavy does everyone estimate this fish to be ? Another dilema which I would have, assuming your Rays - sic. Skate were accepted for prize giving purposes with estimated weights, would be that as standing the larger Thornback would actually be Fish of the Month, just beating Gnasher's 5lb 2oz Bream by a fraction. ( A fraction which is easily within the error of your estimate ). Happy to leave in the book as (est) weights, but I cannot put these forward for prizes, which is a shame, but those are the rules.

We had a few Tope but nothing sizeable and we didn't have the screaming runs we had last year ( as Seamouse has noted ). We weren't actually fishing utopia but a nearby mark. All smoothhounds were to squid. rays were to squid as well.
  23. Apart from being caught on a Monday
  24. It is logical. If we were to accept guess weights of fish it would be meaningless as people are not very good at guessing weights. We have always had to have fish weighed and we still do have to have fish weighed and the "honour" system still makes sense as you are honestly weighing your fish. Are you seriously proposing we have all the members guessing their fish weights ? If so then propose it at a club meeting.

And one of the Smoothhounds ( a Starry one as well ! )
