  1. I’m told it never goes to plan when I’m on board! Well it did yesterday! We got the 7.30 bridge with perfect conditions although Jerrys forecast was showing it would be windy before midday so we stayed in Swanage bay to try for some rays. The tide was rising quite hard and not much was showing. As it slackened off a couple of strap conger and LSD, then a few rattles and a decent bream came up on a large hook. We changed down and caught a few bream for the table. The wind was now much less than expected so at slack water we ventured out slightly further to a bank in the hope of rays. The tide was now ebbing strongly and Jerry was first with a blonde. A hectic half hour followed with two more blondes and a tope each. My shoulder is aching today! It then went quiet and with a chop starting to pick up we decided to up anchor but the anchor had other ideas! It had set in very hard in the tide and would not trip despite some motoring around. After a battle it eventually came up and we headed back to the swash to try for some plaice. One for Jerry but nothing else showing so we called it a day. We spotted a kayaker really struggling trying to get past the chain ferry in the strong ebb so we threw him a line….he was mightily relieved and with some expert boat handling from captain we towed him back into the harbour…..catch and release I think they call it! Jerry has done so well with the cucumbers in his greenhouse this year that he’s having to find other uses for them and it turns out they make very good rig tidiers! thank you skipper!
  2. Thanks Greg, such a shame that I managed to drop my breakfast all over the deck and it landed ketchup side down with bits of ragworm and weed for extra flavour! Sorry I forgot that you had actually caught your first fish…I was genuinely pleased for you when you caught your (second) 5oz schoolie !
  3. Drove along the east cliff on my way home from Dean Court saturday night and it looked perfect conditions with good moonlight and fireworks. Hopefully cover boy J2 will appear below....
  4. Didn't realise it was this weekend Jerry. Got non-member friends out with us so unlikely to be fishing much.
  5. Happy birthday Jerry, have a great day 🍻
  6. Happy birthday Martin!
  7. You're welcome Greg. Glad you like the new boat....it's nice to be able to put your feet up whilst waiting for a bite! Fish goujons for tea 😋
  8. We went to the Sadler and had a steady flow of whiting. Not many keepers amongst them though. Pout and a few dogfish but surprisingly no conger. The ebb tide this afternoon did slow down the catch rate once it got going. Not many others out there.
  9. Yes, I'm hoping to come. Jerry's was the first offer so I'll take that thank you.
  10. Might see you out there Charlie. Greg joining me and will be going out on the 8.30 Bridge.
  11. Hoping to get out Saturday or Sunday whichever is lighter winds. It's a big tide though. what area would you go to get out of the worst of the ebb tide?
  12. Belated happy birthday Mal, hope you had a good one.
  13. 'Well his boats on fire and he's only got an 8" landing net.......and look at the state of his coffee mug!!' were my first words to Chris (my son) when stepping on board Loobie IIII. Luckily the smoke turned out to be the cabin heating firing up for the first time this autumn and the landing net turned out to be for the live bait tank (what do we know!! 😂). A kind invite from Jerry saw us on C pontoon for 7am Saturday. A glorious morning with much lighter winds than forecast.....t shirt weather by about 11am. What a boat! I had to keep checking we were actually doing 20knots as it felt so smooth and quiet. We headed out for a drift for bass in swanage bay but things weren't happening and what wind there was was over tide making it lumpy. So plan B and anchoring on a bank for the morning. Once the tide turned we had a steady flow of species......8 in total. The best being bream to 2lb 1oz and smoothhound to 6lb 2oz. A move after lunch took us to another bank and Jerry taught us the fine art of uptiding which produced a number of rays, not weighed but the best probably around 10lb. It was probably an average day for you Jerry but it was a great one for us so thank you very much for the invite. If you'll have us back I promise Chris won't wash your reels down with the salt water hose or spill coffee granules everywhere 🤣
  14. Wow! Well done 👏 What sort of speed were you drifting?
