Terry, with everything kind of clear at home now, I begin school holls on friday at lunchtime. If you are getting behind with fitting, I am happy to travel up for a day or two and give you a hand to fit the carcasses, or even bang a few together for you while you fit them. Have fitted many Duval and Symphony kitchens for a friend of mine who has a buisiness doing this, so I have a small bucket of knowledge on this one. If you need a hand, give me a bell. Rich

I can see an invite being sent to Mr Carrier to come to our next meeting. The man is a twonk.

The length weight tape has been drived from scientific data compiled from proportionate Bass. If Bass appear lean, one would expect them to be less than the stated weight, and similarly, if they are oversize, as in this case, one would expect a heavier fish. (Not rocket science lads!). Rich

duly noted, thanks for the early heads up on this one, I am still available for committee duties on the new date. Rich

Great result Jimbob, a hunch paid off so to speak,

Hadn't read this thread before posting on one up there. Its got to be a good show of support, and I echo Slam Dunc's suggestion of the availablity of Stickers for the club Open Pack up. Rich

Its worth a peep on the Deep Sea web site.....Chris Caines et al are advocating a new scheme to show that the RSA sector are backing conservation, perhaps the club might like to discuss this at the forthcoming meeting in Dec, and maybe place its weight behind this? I appreciate that the Dec meeting will be a full one agenda wise, but guys come on, we need to do something to support conservation openly, the club Open would be a good platform to get rid of seatbox/window stickers to show support. The clubs own conservation policy speaks for itself, and I personally think that an open gesture such as this is a step in the right direction. Rich

Orange peel is one fruit skin that refuses to rot down, many National Parks ask ramblers not to drop them.

Charlie, I cant promise, things as they are at home, but I will make every effort to come down and watch the moment. I wont say long overdue, as these are the wrong words, but, maybe everything comes to he who waits!! Rich

Charlie, really pleased that the mountain top is now well within reach. Great efforts put in by many people will shortly come to fruition. I'm really pleased for you. Rich

Charlie, it is the lugs that the screws go down into that fail, if the screws do slide out, its a trip back to Pure fishing to right the problem. In the end, I was fed up with sending it back, and threatened them with "Fit for purpose", and got a refund. I guess mine was a friday afternoon reel, but after sending a 6500 lever drag back umpteen times, I think not. I hope he gets good service from it.

Andy, the Sole fishing around the river entrance seems to come in, just as the other sole marks are finishing/finished. It is a very specific area, but you will see one or two boats there, always on the mark. The new British record was actually taken last year, but has only recently been ratified. Rich
-
Andy, sole will be in abundance just outside the Beaulieu River entarnce, the British record was recently broken from here. Bass will continue to show around the Seagull Island area. If you head back towards stone point........anchor up and bounce small weights and either rag or sandeels over the groyne, to pick up bass to around 4lbs. If you scoot across the solent towards the ledge, you will find a few rays close inshore. Cod will now be showing on the west lepe bouy. Hope this helps. Rich

Guys, those neoprene jackets are excellent for keeping spray off the reel o9n the way to the mark, and to help prevent knocks and scratches when stowing reels. If you keep them on the reel when you have been out, they keep the salt water inside the reel, which has a negative effect. I have found it best to rinse both the reels and jackets, dry overnight in an airing cupboard as stated previously then replace the covers. When I enquired to Pure fishing as to the problem with the 7000's, they told me it is a regualr back at their servicing bay, screw seats coming loose, and screws shearing. Surely not all these ABU's are friday afternoon reels?? LOL. Rich

Not really Mike, if you consider that the MLS is currently set at a fish length that has not had time to procreate. I am confident that the Recreational Sea Angler is a tad more conservation mided than the commercial sector, and with this in mind, due didligence should ensue to conserve our best chances of retaining our own sporting fish stocks. This club boasts an excellent history of C&R as far as Bass are concerned, and as Adam quite rightly stated earlier, other slow growing species such as Rays should be offered their chance of survival. I'm afraid to admit that Ray is perhaps my favorite fish, and I do take some for the table, but I do set myself a limit each year. If all fishing clubs follow the good practice encouraged by the PBSBAC, then at least we are comfortable in the fact that at least the RSA are doing their bit towards conserving fish stocks, but then we are not the ones taking tonnes of fish per annum, or discarding similar tonnes of undersized fish that generally have little chance of survival. As Al and a fair few others have stated, conscience plays a huge part in this, and if we are happy with that, then so be it. Rich

Mike, I know excatly where you are coming from, I was umming and ahhing as to release or knock my specimen Bass. I recall wise words from Adam, and there was no question to answer here. She went back. Some fish do, and some fish don't, indeed Adam DID try and release a massive Cod, caught a while back, which unfortunately did not go, so it was taken for the table. It horses for courses, and it is a personal descision, but folk will mutter about it, as that is human nature. As long as you can stand up and be counted at the gates, thats fine. I'm no marine biologist, but it is fact that older fish are generally less fertile, so it does make sense to take a larger one, although I have been told that the flesh is not as nice as a younger specimen. I generally take fish of around five pounds, all others above and below this are released, that is my choice....although it would be nice to actually have caught bigger bass this season!!! Everything else apart, a truly superb fish, well done. Rich

Paul, the jaggy drag is all down to moisture in the drag washer set up. If you take it out and dry it with a hair dryer, then replace, it should be as smooth as day one. Bearings, even the small ones, have the size stamped on the racer casing. Get a magnifyer and write down this number, as this is the one that a bearing supplier needs. No honey harvested as yet duncan, hopefully mid November. We message you when I have some. Rich PS I dont need my hair dryer any more, you may borrow mine Paul. Come to think of it......has anyone use for a gents brush and comb set?? As new!!!!

Just to roll in a low baller, I too, have a 7000NLD, which has now been back to the manufacturer so many times it never ever sees the light of day, and I wont waste money putting braid on it. I have found that the screws that hold the side plates to the main frame work loose in their sockets, pulling the threads away. Annoying when you are trying to play a fish!! I wash my reels after the majority of my sessions, shake them dry, and place in an airing cupboard to do the rest. They are all serviced every year, rough running or not, to clean out the bearings, re oil and grease with manufacturers product, and the shimanos far outweigh the ABU's. All except my mini ambasadeur Five, made in sweden, bought with my first weeks pay when I was 16, for the princly sum of

Al, great write up. Perseverence pays dividends. With the dilligence that you and yor team put into your chosen quarrey, you desrevd a few takes and at least one fish, top marks. Rich
