    Big Game Reel

T...if u are still looking...I have a Penn International 16s two speed, which you are welcome to have a play with.....I wont really be needing it untill october, got my eyes on a decent conger from an inshore mark. R
  2. Even fished at anchor these baits can be lethal, as Mark proved when taking his two good reds. Its all about knowing your target species, and fishing mainly for them. Gurnards cant resist a brightly coloured bait dropped in front of them. If they are down there, you should hit them. Both areas we fished at anchor have produced good reds before, so all was not lost on the day. The jelly worm type gulps are best fished as a moving bait, the small fish strip types work equally well static or moving/bounced.
  3. Provisionally, Mark and I will be out. Rich

    Hi

Welcome aboard Leo....hope you enjoy the hospitality of the guys. Rich
  5. Out of interest....has anyone read the blog which accompanies this story?? There are some pretty mindless entries on it!!!
  6. Al...out of interest...go to the web site and see how much money is doinated to different sports. It seems if it isnt an olympic sport...or played with a ball......u get squat!!! Bone of contention on a couple of sites atm. Rich
  7. Dan, the Gulp range are impregnated artificials, banned from most Lure only comps because of their scent enhancement. In non competitive sorties, they are very good. I get em from the states and they work ok. Horses for courses. Rich

    Superglue!

Gazza......super glue is used on micro beads that act as stops behind two way beads.......which allow the use of longer snoods on individual paternosters on multi hool rigs. They spin far more freely that swivels trapped between crimp/stop knots and beads, and allow the almost perfect presentation of baits in tide for multiple species. On descent from the boat they are near tangle free, and the implementation of super glue on the knots and beads, allows the use of far finer B/S mono, than usual stiffer type snoods made to make the baited hooks "stand up", thus leading to far finer rigs, which should in turn, give almost invisible bait presentation. Hope that doesnt sound to up myself or complicated, it isnt really, just what I have seen the international guys using on the circuit, and it works. Two way beads available from Mike @ UKHooks.co.uk Rich
  9. Well done all that voted it in. Click the ads...lets earn more!

    Superglue!

Watch out using super glue on rigs......it becomes brittle when immerssed in salt water. Another impact type super glue called Mitre Mate is good, a tad more expensive, but holds well in the sea. Used on my match rigs. Rich
  11. Met Mark at lymo for an early doors launch, I'll let Mark report on his eventfull trip down!!! A rising tide at 0600, and just enough to get the boat in. Cars parked in the TS car spots, trailer locked all secure, and off we steam for macky at sconce. Well, that was the plan! A fuel feed problem curtailed the trip, with the engine dying just outside the harbour. Anchor down, a call to Solent CG to inform them of the possible hazard to shipping, another cal to to our engine servicer, who identifies a couple of possibles.........tilt switch and ball valve in hand primer. Tilt switch disengaged gave us life in the engine......but no constant fuel feed. A quick dive into the tackle box, and the pliers did the trick on the priming hand pump. The engine fired up, but didnt run smoothly, so we decided to up anchor and head back to Lymo. A swift recovery, and we were out. A call to Solent CG to let them know we are safe and well, and home James! What a bummer!!! By the sounds of things, the Bass werent playing anyway, and with only 20 rag left in the shop last night, stingers would also have been a problem, although conditions were perfect today. Better safe thsan sorry!!! Rich
  12. Gurnards can take a red hue........red gurnards are un mistakable. If a member says he caught a red Gurnard...I'm happy with that. The issue over starrys and commons is one of two distinct species for one listed record. Similar to couches bream, red bream etc. If you cant ID the fish yourself, dont put in a claim, simple!!!
  13. Im sure you can still claim it, as the record list is done on trust.......ask Paul D the fish recorder.
  14. Hi LFE, I'm pleased that your efforts were rewarded! A 2lb gurnard is a good fish, if it was a red, its a new club record I'm sure!! Appologies for not buddying up to show you around, but I know that you appreciate my domestic ituation at present, so fishing takes a back seat. Hopefully next time we'll get out there and fish some marks that will produce something to really tug your line. Rich
  15. How about a general club sponsorship too???
  16. Could have been a couch's Bream.....also getting more common round these areas...and no club record exists as yet
  17. General crew??? Have a look at close inshore for stingers. If I can get out on thursday, I will definately be having more than a glance at em. Excellent tides, meaning little weed movement......give em a go. Big bunches of rag are best baits.
  18. PJ...send a letter to The manufacturer......I am positive they will supply you a new one. They did for me. Rich
  19. Yes Mike, things in Kams household are very similar to those in mine, I too, hope all is well Kam, Kindest regards...Rich
  20. "its short and tatty"..................what about the vid T??
  21. Congrats Alun, what a lovely feeling!!! Ive just broken up for the six weeks school holidays now, so am up for either crewing or taking the boat out. Nice one Rich
  22. Apparently the better lines for fly fishing are a sink tip........fished in shallower water. Give gruffy a PM, and he will put you right, as he fishes almost exclusively with the fly. Rich
  23. Well done to all who fished a difficult day. Top marks to Al and Rupe, not only for the consisently great catches, but also diplomacy in other areas of the forum! Good to see a a reasonable number of fish caught. Rich
  24. Good result, well done. Are the sole in good condition??
  25. Perhaps time to put this thread to bed, methinks. Rich
