  1. I might also like to add.......this is a catch and release comp......so no bass that is euthanased will be elligable for weighing in. Keep some sport for tomorrow!!! Rich
  2. Just as well Billy didnt nab it.......it would have been smiling from the edge of cindy's kitchen worktop!!!
  3. Handbags at dawn...............
  4. Brilliant news Charlie, I'm well chuffed for you. I'll give you a bell regarding collecting the scaffolding so Mrs C isnt nagging about too much clutter out the front!!! Rich
  5. Lard and Lardier on Nipper please. Rich
  6. Mike, have a search for the thread I did on making the livewell last year.....and procure one of them, as space on your deck is ok. Bigger the better, with a good circulation of fresh oxygenated water will ensure bait is tiptop chap. Also.........another top tip.........whack on either red ball weight or a mini pirk....I'll post pics of mine on another thread when I make some more up, and you will see your catches increase on the feathering, be it for Launce, mini wrasse, poor cod, macky or Mini scad. These are also the fish that you should be drifting across ledges with for that old elusive Bass!!! PM me your telephone number, and we'll natter chap.
  7. Mike...get yorself a blue bin, and I'll knock u a tank up...I have spare kit here. Mine works a treat and charlie gives it the thumbs up. For the pocket scad, if you have any of those mini shrimp rigs I sent you for the herring.........cut them down to threes or fours.....and use them. Scad are reasonably hardy, and will last longer on the hook than mackeral.........you may also like to try ini wrasse or pout/poor cod. Enough secrets matey!!!! If you want more mini rigs...give me a nudge chap. Rich
  8. Dan/Dom......be mindfull that cable can and does fray, leaving lethal splines of cable that really gets into your fingers!!!! From personal experience with tree winching............use straps. Salt water also corodes steel cable...nylon strap doesnt rust. And you really have to stuff loads of grease across ne cable...it soaks it up like nobody's buisiness! Rich
  9. Indeed Charlie.....but with the news that the netters had been on the shambles, and a Bass boat was lost in the Race last week, we decided upon a peacefull day at anchor in the sun......a few beers...a few bacon sarnies........oh...and more than our share of species thrown in. The Bass Comp plan is already sorted........

    Dry Run

Mark and I decided on a dry run for our next species comp, well, after we heard that the trawlers had been out in force raping the shambles again. With a boat lost in the race last week, the bass were safe, so we decided on one of our more profitable marks, in both species and prize money, a short steam from the Harbour. Straight into mackeral over the Hartlepool, superb joeys, a full string each drop, so off to our chosen mark. Fish from the off, and some good specimens too. Baits were half fillets, fillets and flappers, worms, and squid. Rigs, our normal short trace one hookers for the heavies, and tiny two/single hook paternosters. Toadays haul included Bream, Red Gurnard (six!! ), Spotted Ray, two very nice Thornies, Tope, a couple of good sized LSD and a bucket full of fresh macky to go home with. With fish coming on both flood and ebb, the back up mark no more than 1/4 mile away wasnt needed. All in all, a very enjoyable day afloat, Nipper behaved superbly as usual, sun, no rain, and a pint with Mr Short in the clubhouse afterwards ended a great day. Roll on next weekend. Rich
  11. I hate to be the bringer of bad tidings........I helped give a BASS presentation at the Southsea Sea Angling Club last night, and they told me to pass on to you guys that the slip you are intending to use is under a squillion tons of shingle, and unless the council move it today......which they feel is unlikely, you wont be able to launch even with a 4 x 4. They did say that an alternative slip in Langstone Harbour was useable, and that only makes the steam out to the grounds about 20 mins longer. Trailaway Cmmdre...please check on the states of the slips. Rich
  12. deb works for AON, one of the biggest brokers worldwide. She has said she can approach one of the account manages for a quote for club members, seeing as we have so many boats in the club. If we moved buisiness across to one insurer, this may have benefits for the club. Rich
  13. Mark...we could fish the harbour if need be.....I will speak to BB about joining the WAC, so we have the berth anytime we need it. Rich
  14. or 44 and semi retired Peter!!! I'm always up for a day out on tuesdays or fridays........and if you fancy a trail up to lymington, the chances of a stinger are getting bigger by the day now, as we arrive at the longest day. Rich
  15. Mikey....if you want to know about fish...speak with Jimbob...he is a mine of information...but yes...looks very much like your thorny was a Blonde. If you ever venture into the weymouth angling clubbar, you will see the rcord list on the walls....and way back in the days of yoor, a guy landed a huge thornback, smashing that club record...yet strangely, not being held as a British record!! Methinks that too, was a blonde...so you are not a lone my friend"!! Rich

  19. Dan....how very dare you!!! LMAO matey...why dont you blag a trip down with us one day....no need to steal the plotter, they are all very well marks we fish, we just know how to fish them and on which state of the tide!!! I must get a decent method of mullet fishing from you mate.....cant seem to sqeak thick lips out in weymouth harbour...weve only had one between us!!!! Lard
  20. All valid points above........but I would like to announce a far better catch that wasnt recorded. Mark, sat alongside the quay behind Weymouth Angling Club, on friday evening, inadvertantly left his wallet, alledgedly almost as fat as Paul D's, on the wall. Spotted by his young son, who obeying his dads requests all day to shut up, decided it best to keep schtuum, and not report the heinous mistake his father had made. Once indie the club, after consuming the first of many intended stella's, Mark reached into his pocket to remove his wallet.......which wasnt there. It was on the wall Dad...says Ryan. Expletives ensued.......and we eventually found a bobby to report the lost item. Cards cancelled, and well miffed...this led us to board Nipper, and sail off into the dark night, to seek out a conger and bully or two. Two days later, a kind member of the public calmly walks into a Lloyds bank in Birmingahm.....yes Birmingham, and hands in lost wallet, complete with the
  21. Nice one mate............no comments about the conger cuddling or the jig around the deck. Well done buddy..............Nippers on form .....again!!! Rich
  22. Here a taster of Mark B's effort. Not bad eh?
  23. weymouth harbour it is then??
  24. Braid has a few advantages.......far far better sensitivity, and you drastically reduce the weight needed to hold bottom. Go for braid every time, unless uptiding, then stick with mono. Go for a half decent budget priced downtider.....all of Coddy's suggestions are good. I use the Ugly Stick range, cheap, virtually unbreakable, and when mine did break, although it was a few years old, they replaced it free of charge...no quibbles. Spend money on a good reel try a shimano charter special........a good all round reel for a beginner. Load that with 30lb braid. Buy a few spools of good mono. I use 28lb suffix for braid to hooklength. My hooklength is a good quality fleurocarbon f perhaps 20lb B.S. All my hooks come from Mike at UK Hooks......he is very reasonable for hooks swivels etc. email him and ask for a catalogue......excellent service, next day delivery, you can tell him Rich from Southampton reccomended him, and you saw it on the PBSBAC website. (Quick plug ) Most of all...keeep a regular look out on here, join the club if you are not a member, get members benefits in the form of discounts from local tackle shops, and enjoy your fishing. Welcome to the forum mate. Rich
  25. Thats a big Dory Tom......club waters?????
