Woke to a calm morning today,,,,first for a week....and looks to stay for a while.
Hard to remember the last trip to Alderney when it was calm...it might have been the first two trips on JV [ 1 ] ! When was that Adam ? 2009 ??
Quote "For those with tenders, it may be wise to pick up a mooring on arrival and leave the tender on it for the day".
>>>> If there's any space Terry !! If they are all full, where would you put it ?
Anyone else thinking of joining us for Alderney this coming weekend ?? Forecast looks good [or even VERY good !] the tides are small and accommodation is available.
Sat to Mon on Steve's super, duper Tigerfish.
Most suited for when the camp site field gets flooded...rather than a trip around Poole Harbour on a typically breezy summer's day.
If it put out an anchor I bet it would soon fill with water if there was anything other than flat calm !
Thanks all.....relaxing day on the beach...with a cycle along the prom. Met Lofty [about to launch] at Branksome....await his report...it looked nice out there!
Now cooking a plaice supper... with family...and lots of birthday 'fruit' juice !! 'Hic' !!
Will I be fit to go out tomorrow?????????
All seemed to work much the same !! As long as your bait is well-presented [flat on the bottom], there didn't seem much difference. Mackerel or launce. ...fillet , flapper or whole.
Have a good trip...forecast holding nicely....you should have a much more comfortable fish than we did !!
Update ! Oli are you still going with your original plan ? Saturday looks like it could be a windy day.
This morning we are looking at going Sunday to Weds.
Any other boats ??
Alun.
After being blown off for this past weekend, we are now looking at the next neaps in 2 weeks time
Tigerfish is planning on going [poss Sat to Tues for the best tides]
I have some accommodation provisionally booked....but there is room for some others.
Are any other boats thinking of going over that weekend ?
Alun
They've been here in the UK since 1888....accidently brought in with a consignment of oysters from the US [probably into Southampton].....and now smother much of the South and SE coast.
I don't know when they moved around Landsend....they weren't in South Wales when I was there in the 60's....and I first came across them in the early 70's when I was a student and used to fish beaches in Sussex. They were a good bait [or bait addition] then, and still are....esp after a blow.
The points above, are all an attempt to slow their progress into new habitats......whatever we do here will have no consequence....just don't take them on a trip !!
