hi Alan,
A diving dry suit is different to an occasional use dry suit.
I have a Crewsaver Drysuit that is perfect for sailing, kayaking, jet skiing etc. it came from Pacer Marine in Aldershot and cost around

The link that Gary put on a thread I started about prop size.
Gary beat me to it!

Irrespective, you done good Brian.
Makes for very intersting reading.

I really cannot think if a way that you could strap a starter motor to the flywheel securely.
From what i know, generally engines are bought as manual start or manual/electric start.
I am not in the know, but I have had enough small outboards to be able to confidently say "I doubt it very much"
-
That would be a shame .... its been around for years.
-
Sounds like bliss Stuart.
A fish would just have been the icing.
-
have you had a look to make sure your engine is on the correct hole ?
Hole???
I am rather hoping that the guy who is sorting it will do (or at least advise) on everything.
Still cant wait to get it back and have a play.

Thanks everyone. The guy at the evinrude dealer in Xchurch is gonna put a 17inch prop on and let me try it before any cash changes hands.
Cant say fairer than that.
Thanks everyone again. Cant wait to try it

Thats a real shame .... you have been very well known and respected in the kayak fraternity.
I am sure there will be plenty of offers for you to join people as crew. I am certainly hoping to get out much more this year and with you working those silly hours you do, you might be the perfect person to know
-
you're not giving up are you zippy?
-
excellent .... I have agreed to a new prop anyway, I just couldnt understand how a bigger one would have such an adverse effect.
Almost EVERYONE who saw it used to say "i bet it flies with that thing on it", which was my thoughts too.
-
Now in my ignorance I would have thought that a bigger prop would have slowed acceleration but increased top speed?
Think of it as driving uphill in a car, too high a gear and you'll never reach max revs, or max speed. Change down to the correct gear and it'll reach max revs and a higher speed.
Driving a boat through water is like driving a car uphill.
but surely given a big enough run up it would gradually get there. No?

I thought i would take advantage of the supposed bad weather and have the boat/engine serviced this week.
My findings since gettuing it have been - occasional poor starting and maximum revs at 4000 giving reasonably slow pull away and an absolute maximum of 30mph coupled with quite high fuel consumption.
Anyway .... the starting problem has been confirmed as poor connections AND a faulty battery (the one i bought recently IS faulty) and it would seem that my prop size is 22" when it should in fact be 17".
Now in my ignorance I would have thought that a bigger prop would have slowed acceleration but increased top speed? I am being assured otherwise. I am also being assured that the engine will rev much higher with the correct propellor on it (which I can understand)
I know there are some very clever "boaty people" on this forum so am asking for your opinions?
Its an e-tech 90 on a Raider 18 wheelhouse BTW.

Gulp!!!! Thanks Brian.
It looks like castletown Beach Portland it is then Brian!
That is exactly the sort of info I was looking for.

I am looking out of my office window at flat calm and sunny conditions, just right for getting out on the boat and drowning some bait.
As my boat/engine has just had a service and I am hoping to fit my new electronics over the next week or so so the boat is on its trailer at my place, I am getting itchy feet. I know the fishing is likely to be anywhere between slow to dead (but my fishing generally is anyway). I JUST WANNA GET OUT.
I am considering towing the boat over to Kimmeridge and using the slip way there, or maybe to Castletown Beach at Portland. I am hoping to drop a hook over one of the many wrecks around Portland or The Shambles. I could motor out there, but I fancy giving it a go at towing her.
Has anyone got any experience of either of those public slipways?
-
That will be lovely if the weather is as nice as the last couple of days.
The only bait I ever use in the harbour at this time of year is rag worm.
With big tides you will possibly struggle with weed and the crabs in the harbour can be a pain in the proverbials too.
Enjoy.

but he doesnt fish!
He doesn't fish?!?!
Shadey character there Brian!

sounds like a plan ... isn't that the same date as the castaways flounder comp?

I am heading to the Boat Show on Sunday and gonna make my decision whether I mate a new HD head with my existing setup or whether to start again with a complete new BB setup.
I am hoping to pick up a bargain from the traders not wanting to take stuff home again after the show.
Whatever happens I expect to be radar compliant by Sunday evening :-)
As I expected I allowed the salesmen to talk me out of matching a HD head with my existing Lowrance 7200
I think I have ended up with what I want. A Garmin 750s which is a 7inch plotter/sounder matched to an HD randome and a new transducer. Together with a G2Vision card for 3D charts etc. Saved around

Once the exact dates are confirmed, is anyone looking for crew?

10-4 good buddy

I agree totally.
I had a 13 1/2LB Pollock a few years ago and it made dinner for all of us that were on the boat. Mmmmmmm beat Cod and IMHO is FAR better than Bass (which I am not a fan of).
