  1. right - finally managed to get Theyr's thoughts (why do all the really good ones go subscription - rhetorical?) so it's SW7 of the Anvil midday Sat that, as they say, settles my weekend...........
  2. abject apologies Terry.....................a little joshing that has gone wrong. Sort of inevitable when faced with such depressing weather - my hopes and aspirations for the wekend have gone from Alderney trip Bream Comp Some fishing out West Stay at home and sort out the TVs, ariels, Sky etc around the house for the FPO
  3. I suspect you will - 'chaser' not catcher now!
  4. must me me but 35kph and 18 knots would seem to be quite similar.by my maths........ whatever it's firming up as pants for small boat fishing outside the harbours toying with Saturday now but that's more desperation than in any real expectation of a nice day out!
  5. late back from pub - looks like the detective works finished!
  6. scratch wrasse............. more like the flying fish family (without the wings) body shape and tail all suggest free swimming - open water fish facinated!
  7. i am rulling out mullet, can't see an adipose for shad, wrasse looks favorite........... if you have a higher quality photo can you email to me an I will process it and repost as best I can with the tools available Fred? certainly wouldn't eat it (not suggesting it's fugu!) and would get it weighed accurately somewhere (like Poole Angling.......) money at the moment is on a Wrasse - washed out Cuckoo? have pm'd email address Fred - any size
  8. you're asking us Fred? how do we know! think I will stick to the patch for a bit..............
  9. very worrying - from a defence of the realm perspective - that they couldn't hit a boat of his size too eh Charlie?
  10. someone somewhere obviously reads Dan's posts 'cos Metcheck is now giving Sunday nothing higher than 9mph throughout the 24hrs............... OK it's raining And there will be a residual sloppy swell But it's neaps
  11. Begin to get some insight into the reason for your name................. Are you sure you haven't accidentially purchased a stealth boat yourself? If the range radar couldn't see you they will be firing - if it can they won't! Glad the fish proved worth it eventually.
  12. Lulworth Ranges will not be firing weekends again until Sept in 2006 The number for up to date info (recorded) is 01929404819 Weekday fireing diesn't take place on BH, or the major school holidays, including the whole of August. If you haven't programme ed this number in your mobile and are thinking of heading round midweek then call Portland on the vhf and they will be able to advise, alternatively Lulworth Range Boat on 08 or 16 - but by th etime you are in range (line of sight) you will be able to see the red flag flying on St Albans Head.............
  13. nope - can't have been that big..................... clearly instead of a single size limit on photo pixels we should have one weighted (hehehe) to fish size.............thus a 60lb conger could have 600 x 400, a 40lb tope 500 x 300 16lb undulate 300 x 150 and Badger's plaice..........a deserving 60 x 40
  14. going to argue the other way.............but only for alongside berths not swinging! have kept all mine that way; 17 dory, 21 cuddy and now Phaeton. Never left anything of value on board at all - but geting things on and off is nothing compared to trailering! Still had trailer capability and used to go off to Loch Lomond (pike) Brittany (rocks) Plymouth (pollack), Spain (hot) and Poole (sunburn - so Jo made us move the boat there permanently) ............. On the one hand it's always been the largest annual cost of owning / running the boat - on the other it has enabled me to use it with the family (or fishing) when I want to. Swinging mooring has the capability of being the worst of both worlds though. Before anyone say's it - yes 200 a month is a lot of money; but some people pay 35 a month to Sky just to be able to watch some football
  15. funnily enough I am now looking at Sunday and thinking I may well come down and fish the bream comp.................... OK it's going to be wet/miserable but SW3-4 is fine in the bay/patches/ledge - not so fine West though. On the other hand the sea state is going to be generally sloppy from the next few days

if it's XP then that would be my first try too...............

    Fly Fishing

not driving you round the bend I hope Fred?
  18. hey we managed only 5 doggies on the whole of Thursday.........hell of a long way to go for that! Just had to grit the teeth and try harder Friday. it's a real pisser when the boats starting the same drifts with the same tactics etc manage the fish you don't. You know they are there!
  19. nah - it's easy..............landing net in use = club boat seriously I would be more than happy to purchase a club pennant were one to exist. May I tactfully suggest that it be pennant sized and any fundamentally any colours except blue/black or white................if you are close enough to read fancy art work you don't need it for recognition purposes! Black on yellow or orange PBSBAC for example - although yellow could be confused with a Q flag so orange?

    Fly Fishing

    Domestos?
  21. you are welcome to my 45s, 78s adn even 33s............. and anyway I only have one so please pick on someone who has been greedy and has more then one ........... although I appreciate it's rather difficult to selectively target brill rather than turbot. all the best - I'm not planning for that particular fish to stand long anyway!
  22. well a small treble is a hell of a lot easier to rig!
  23. adding to Mike's post I make up a fixed pennel with a couple of fine aberdeen size 6s with this rig. As much as anything it allows me to thread the worm section up the lower hook and get a firm hold in it's head with the top one - survives casting better and hooks up well on the 'nibbles' from the mullet. Agree 1" of worm seems the optimum - but I don't know why!
  24. Great report Fred - good to have a plan and stick to it; then even better when a solid Plan B delivers too! You are off Tuesday aren't you? When are you coming back?
