OK Rich - I'll bite........spooling?
-
Spot on Kam................ I have to admit that I found the position request so much easier than coded radio communication or 'call on the mobile' last year. Personally I am happy to share my position with any club member but I do understand why some like to have their 'secret marks' - where would life be without those little secrets eh?
-
Looks on the bow all the way Kam - 27/28th on the other hand look perfect so maybe there will be a bit of a timing change over the next week...........

many many VHF units will not transmit at all when in dual watch mode certainly both my Simrad and Icom units operated this way good news on the Group MMSI business - definitely the way to go. Look forward to the number in due course. Now if I issue a group postion request will it send back the coordintaes of exactly where everyone is anchored?
-
Thats usefull Rich - I have been struggling with bearings for my Okuma TA50 so will go down the route you suggest. I was in contact with a Paul at an Okuma repair centre but he has 'disappeared' from the online/email world - and was struggling to reference a TA50 in any event.

lol@bobF ?????btw what happened when we applied for a group MMSI number ???? - this would solve the problem at a stroke!

do you get many plaice on the banks in Alderney then? are they there but no one fishes for them as they are after turbot and brill?
-
am I missing something - surely 12 turbot is good? certainly not in the 'flatties not playing' arena anyway?

can we expect new forum area 'anchoring reports' to go with 'catch reports'? allan, I am sure a hook that size will do you fine - only problems I have had with that design are amongst weed; sea grass in the med and loose kelp over sand such as found close in at Swanage and the Southerly part of Studland Bay - neither are exactly great fishign spots!
-
allan, your dimensions are similar to Phaeton we have used various combinations of chain and warp in the anchor rode over the last 5 years and have settled on 16m 8mm chain (that's the link guage not overall diameter!) spliced stright through to 14mm anchorplait (octoplait) - nylon or polyester are both good. anchor wise we have a 10kg stainless bruce (type) which worked well in the area, switched to a 10kg Delta to see if it was any better last year (one was available cheap!) and will be 'testing' a new design this year from the manufacturers of the Spade anchor. They contacted me via another forum and I agreed to try it out for a year. Again it's 10kg. Details are here although I am going to have to check if they sent me an 8 or a 12kg it would seem! You could certainly go down to 12mm anchorplait, or even 12mm 3 strand nylon, but I would have 12-15m of 8mm chain then a 10kg anchor Brittany and Danforth anchors are good in sand and mud but, as Mike comments, they don't like any angle on the stock and are useless in shingle. Bruce do not respond well to an angled pull either - only 18 degrees will halve the holding power in most substrates. A scope of 3x will normally suffice once the water is over 20m deep but 1. keep a longer scope when achored uptide of a wreck or reef - just in case! 2. in shallower water go up to a full 5 or 6 x; especially if there is any swell/chop If you want to borrow an anchor to try it out let me know

pretty led lights? wus - go the whole hog and get the Benett NMEA2000 bus. link it to a modern Lowrance unit and get an on screen display window showing the positon of the tabs as a virtual display............ who says you need fish to have fun out there!
-
is there another thread on this or are you getting phone calls Tom? whatever, give me a call if you want someone behind you..............
-
jeepers - 60 miles from 30 litres of fuel at 30 mph and the boats 3 tons; reckon even Tom could sell a few of them...................... where can I get one?
-
everythings relative - sounds a really great day to me............ thnaks for writing it up
-
look like dabs to me..............

nice report Adam - glad you had such a great day out. interesting that the artificials fished so well heads up against the live launce - any ideas why?

Trev You have entered the MMSI number in the 421? Without it I dont think it shows position Also that unit has a menu option not to show the NMEA input but take a manual input - checks it's set right. On the 421 the NMEA +ve goes to the centre wire to the jack and either a dedicated NMEA -ve or a connection direct to the earth connection on the GPS should be made. Othe rthan that the 421 seems to take the NMEA 0183 1.5 message as well as later ones despite the manual not confirming that. Don't have access to a StandardH manual so cant be more specific on it's menu or wiring but it's com port will need to be configured in software as NMEA out.

the rest of us have to put up with cuckoos to herald spring - but nice to hear you are out and about!

theory and practice cross over a bit here! Martin, If you do not have the actual Ships Radio Licence document, which goes with the disc that should be displayed, then quite frankly I wouldn't worry about it. I believe that any Simrad dealer can change the MMSI number in a unit (you can check this easily enough) so I would apply for a new Ships Radio Licence for your vessel including a new MMSI number if you wish to use DSC. Then take this licence to a Simrad dealer and ask them to change the units number for you. When writing to OFCOM for a new licence I would highlight the circumstances. Note - it is entirely possible that the MMSI number is from a previous owner of the radio which was subsequently fitted to your boat before sale - not unknown!

replacement power steering pump, outdrive service, oil leak, antifoul , slipped disc, weather............permitting.......... I am looking forward to it too! Planning on the manky bit of bait on crap tackle approach to get the big one! Seriously thought (and the frst sentence was as well) - I have made up some snoods with between 3-10ft of 35lb flurocarbon and 3/0 and 5/0 long shank hooks (seem very small beside most things in my rig wallet!) whish I trust will be what I need and plan on 12 and 20 lb rods. Am I on the right track? As Dave can get a brill drifting the rips I am sure he will have no trouble over there!

whoops - not you then sry............ WSOP World Series of Poker I am left having to look out the post in which someone (name beginning with D (?)) says they are going this year digging my hole - Domino? lol

I always thought that 1. fish of the month 2. club records 3. braggin' rights in the catch reports section were enough to suport that competitive streak in most people.......... interesting that the one suggesting '

how are you going to atch less fish Jack? .............. and Rich - I was being a little tounge in check m8 sry I think the dedicated match anglers are fantastic in the way they approach the sport and amazingly inovative in the solutions they develop. however despite beig ultra competitive ( I am told) I go out fishing for rest, relaxation and to get the big ones!

I'm with Fred........... anyway sounds like I would have to come down from my usual baits of half a cuttle, 10 calamari, pout or mackerel flapper so that's out then
