  9. Kam it's Pete junior although I don't think the big boy will be offended. Bag limits would be all well and good if as you say others were held to account for the effect they are having on fish stocks, even if some commercial fishermen would be held to account for indiscretions some of them commit might make it more palatable but no instead it seems as if certain ssfc officers have a death wish against anglers. Why? I wonder could it be something to do with bruised egos and ongoing issues with the charter sector? who knows, what I do no is that when we anglers as a group asked for a no go area to fish for flounder in areas of Poole harbour the ssfc stated that they could not be seen to be biased or discriminatory towards one sector so instead introduced min size limits which affected all. This conservation measure was not dreamt up buy ssfc no it was a direct result of recreation anglers pushing for measures to conserve stocks, when have the commercial sector tried to conserve stocks? It now would appear that they (ssfc) are only to happy to be seen to be discriminatory against the one sector that at least tries to play the conservation game. SSFC will say that anglers are catching fish and selling on their catch! are they? if you know they are then you must know who they are? if you know who they are why don't you do your job and bring the offenders to task not tar us all with that brush. There is a meeting this evening at the Broadstone Conservative club with guest speaks from the SSFC perhaps some questions need to be asked of their representatives. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend but would ask members that do to ask pertinent questions and report back. The basis of the proposed bag limits are I believe as follows: Lobster 2 Crab 5 Great Scallop 24 Sea Bass 4 Cod 2 Clams (all species) 8KG Obviously the shellfish crab and lobster do not really effect us but 2 cod in the summer? Before a byelaw goes through they (the proposers) have to go out to consultation and I believe that this club should register itself with the ssfc as an interested party/stakeholder to be sure we receive proper notification of any future proposals rather than relying on information given us by friends Martin
  10. Dan Amnesia is fine although no need to use such heavy mono on small hooks. I use 25lb when bassing with 4/0 - 6/0 hooks 30;b if pollocking or coding with the same size hooks and would drop down to 16lb when using hooks below 2/0. Fishing in the harbour for flatties 10lb is sufficient for most situations Martin
  11. Dan Others may well fish braid throughout but I always without question attach a leader. Braid is soo soo much thinner and more expensive than mono. Braid does not stand up to knocks and abrasion to well also it does not stretch. The idea of a leader is to save abrasion on the braid. When the mono becomes damaged you simply cut it off and attach another leader, no braid lost. This not ony saves money but also introduces a little stretch to act as a slight cushion when a fish runs, you still obviously have to set your clutch as normal. Braid has almost zero stretch and if not fished correctly can lead to lost fish due to hooks being pulled out. if using braid throughout set your clutch with slightly less drag than fishing with mono to allow for lack of stretch. Hope that makes sense Martin
  12. Thanks Peter I will try to be there Martin

  16. Hi Martyn Welcome to one of the friendliest small boat clubs on the south coast. Get stuck in and enjoy BTW I have just updated your forum status to that of club member so you can now see the club member only section Martin
  17. Thanks for the info Jim I have split the remainder of this thread and put it in the help section so others may benefit from it. It will also make it easier to do a search and find the info. I may set up a forum called "boat engine and trailer maintenance" would this be a useful feature? maybe would be easier to find maintenance topics. Would just take time to move all items in there. What does everyone else think Martin
  18. What a superb fish and a corker of a day Well done lads Martin
  19. Really sad news. Oceanique were a good company and a one time sonsor of this club. I hope Mr Chester and all his crew find alternative employment Martin
  20. Patrick All good advice above. One thing you did wrong which hasn't been mentioned is you should not of shortened your anchor rode before doing the anka yanka thing, if anything you should have lengthened it. Sounds to me like you have a good idea of what should happen but as yet not quite got it all together. Take up an offer of someone coming out on your boat or theirs and be shown. As Terry says you will pick it up much quicker by being shown. You should also not be putting yourself or crew in danger if shown how to do it correctly. If you like I would be prepared to come out for an hour to run it all past you, either your boat or mine. Martin
  21. Please read attached file for news of the new angling body for all associations. Please note you may have to first save the file on your PC then open it from there. You will also require adobe reader. If you havent adobe reader on your PC you can get a free copy of adobe reader here
  22. Good on you Sam You'll never loose the bug but it does hibernate occasionally Martin
  23. Hi Barney May I be one of the first to welcome you into the club. I have updated your status in the forum to that of club member so you now have access to all areas. All you have to do now is get out, play and learn Best way to learn is hitch some rides or take other members out and pick brains. Believe it or not there are a few brains worth picking within the club Another way is to come along to a meeting. They are held on the first Thursday of every month, it would be good to meet you Martin
