  2. Thats exactly the knot I use except I also double the braid. Never had it fail on me yet but you must ensure that the tag end goes out exactly the same way it went in or it will let go Martin
  3. "Awol" now has new batteries but is still waiting for the engineer to check out the charging circuits. This should happen tomorrow and all things being well we will be out on the rips friday, maybe sat and maybe sunday just got to take out a new mortgage for the fuel Will post here as soon as I know for sure if and when we are going Will also get some numbers for the rips over to you. BTW if anyone has the brittle star numbers I would apreciate them Cheers Martin
  4. Sorry the 48 hour comp is for club members only Martin
  5. Our weekend at the wsf meet started off fairly uneventful even on the fish front. Left Poole at a very reasonable hour. Stopped off at Kimmeridge to have a go for Bream but it seemed devoid of life apart from 1 Pollock of about 1/2lb for Dean. Started the anchor recovery using our trusty buoy, anchor tripped then disappeared leaving us with a floating buoy, rope and chain, no anchor, damn. Next Stop Mupe rocks for a drift, it just looks so bassy but nothing there either so set a course for Portland harbour. The trip across Weymouth bay was a little lumpier than expected but uneventful. Feathered up some mackerel for bait to give us a start for Sunday. Next stop Weymouth harbour to find our berth, wash and brush up and meet the rest of the guys at the sailors return. Day 2 saw Dean and I up and strolling around at 7:30 to find somewhere for breakfast then back on the boat and out to the shambles. First drift Dean gets into a Brill of 6lb 13oz a good start to the day we thinks. Then
  6. Happy birthday Charlie. Never mind about not fishing today theres always next weekend Martin
  7. Competition anglers are a species of their own and probably worth several points A totally seperate breed from the rest of us with most being very skillfull in what they do. I did it for years on the shore side of things (unsuccesfully) but have not bothered since owning boats. It takes allsorts to make up a world but bashing out mini species is not my thing so would not take part in events based on that formatt. I can however see the benefit for the club should others wish to represent us on that front. Martin
  8. Neal did Stuart (electrician) get in touch with you? he knows what your problem is If he didnt give me a bell for his number Martin
  9. You should brush up on your negotiating skills oh and don't apply to go on the apprentice programme your already fired Martin
  10. Well the Weymouth meet is this coming weekend Dean and I will be leaving Poole around 7:30amish on Saturday and steaming up to Weymouth, stoping off en-route at either kimmeridge or maybe the shambles. Planning to get into Weymouth harbour for around 5pm for a wash and brush up prior to hitting the town well The Sailors pub at least yep I am a light weight on that front The rest of our long weekend we will take as it comes, no set time table other than we will return to Poole on tuesday evening. Weather permitting we shall then proceed over to Alderney on Friday OMG just realsied thats friday the 13th for the 48 hour comp Martin
  11. I use the same knot as Tom but loop the braid as well as the leader. I take the braid 9 turns up the mono the get hold of the top of the braid then take a further 6 or 8 turns down over the braid, wet with spit and pull tight. As Tom says it is most important the braid goes through the loop the same way it came in or it will slip. Martin
  12. Well done Stuart now your off the starting blocks there will be no holding you back Martin
  13. As I am away for a few days from tomorrow I had better not drag it out to long to pick a winner Its over to you Capitan Martin

Jim It must be your screen settings. You can change these by going into display settings which you will find in the control panel. Reset your screen resolution to 1280 by 768 or whatever it takes to get everything on screen Martin

When posters upload large photos it can upset the front page or indeed any page that the photo is on. On this occasion it was a lovely pic of a Bream that did it. I have reduced the size of the pic so all is returned to normality....ish Martin
  17. An old photo but I can't resist it Martin
  18. Dave good to hear you and Dean are going to take part in your first club comp You will find further details in our 2008 competition sheets Any other questions just ask Good luck Martin BTW I think you will find there is an error on the above link as I think we voted to allow 3 hooks to be fished not 2? could a committee member please confirm Ta!
  19. The Tope found this fishing lark really exhilerating and got really exceited about seeing water again, unlike Charlie who took up the typical old fella pose Or The tope says "come on Adam I have already woken Charlie twice whilst you ponce about with that flash cameras settings, hurry up and take the pic will yah!"

    cool boxes

Used my Icey Tek cube on our recent Alderney trip. Filled it with crushed ice from Greenslades Friday PM also put 4 iced bottles in saturday am. When we returned Monday PM bottles still solid with ice starting to go a little slushy. Fish were perfect. Well impressed Martin
  23. All the above advice is good but probably the best thing you could do to improve everything boaty and fishy is join PBSBAC proper Tight Lines Martin
  24. Nothing at all wrong with autopilots on power craft although there maybe something wrong with some of the helmsmen using them The old adage a poor workman and his tools springs to mind. I used one over our Alderney week-end and found it to be a boon. Using it made helming the boat less stressfull, tiring and intense but also allowed for the helmsman (me)to take more notice of his surroundings instead of constantly looking at the compass and XTE on the plotter. For these reasons I feel autopilots should at least in theory make travelling in a fast boat safer Martin
  25. Just a few more weeks untill this trip is everyone who stated an interest still interested? Dean and I will be there probably for the full duration. After the Weymouth meet we may well cross the channel and visit Guernsey/Alderney. We will decide this nearer the time with the decision being gauged on how the FPO is performing and also how I feel after 5 days solid fishing at Weymouth After our last Alderney trip I know how knackering this can be Martin
