James .... Done Mike read my post above, I cant give the exact price untill I know how many we will have to purchase from the dearer supplier. As I said above the cheaper supplier will only let us have 40 boxes so I will buy what we need and work it out so we all pay the same, even me Martin

Right then it seems as though the cost of squid will be around

I would agree with Charlie and Paul, a phone call and I would have gladly driven around to pick up/drop off or whatever was needed. That is a benefit of belonging to a club of like minded peeps Martin

CBU's? what are they? would they be humanoids or extra terrestrial

Hi all My thoughts on what Adam and Bob should have done is as follows: Stood offshore to asses the situation Put on life jackets Looked at tide table to see when there would be more water inshore (more water smaller breakers possibly) Contacted the coastguard for a weather report to see if it was going to improve. If not then perhaps decided to go to Weymouth (nearest safe port) my preferred option. It was muted that fuel might have been an issue for one boat as Weymouth was 12 miles away. In this instance they could have still gone to Weymouth after informing the coastguard of the situation. When or if the boat ran out of fuel the buddy boat might have had some spare, if not and the first boat did run out of fuel he should drop anchor and contact the coastguard again to ask for assistance. As the coastguard had already been informed he would be ready to assist pronto. The safety of the crew must be paramount the boat must always come second. All the above is easy with hindsight but after seeing the photos posted by James I don't think I would have attempted to take my or any other boat in there. Martin

Adam Sorry to hear about your unplanned adventure but things do go tits up on occasions and it sounds like this time they were very bigs tits. It may be no consolation but cuts and grazes on gel coat are relatively easy to patch up, ego's and pride may take a little longer. All you can do now is reflect on what happened, draw your conclusions as to how you were put in this situation and perhaps learn a few lessons. At least you are all here to tell us the story. Martin

Dean and I went out on Maverick and headed to a mark on the whitehouse grounds. Got there to find Overdraft and its crew were already on station so looked for a suitable lump and anchored it. We usualy catch a few undulates on this mark but not today. Small bass, lovely looking gurnard, mackerel and dogs. So when the anchor slipped that was the excuse we were waiting for to move. Off we goes up to the 50/50 banks at a rapid rate to try for Blondes and small eyed rays. First drop for me a small eyed ray, not large at around 3lb but a start. Next drop another for me then another then, well I ended up with 4 small eyed rays with the largest going 6lb Dean managed one small small eyed 2/3lb bless him. We also had gurnard and mackerel here. Dean caught a few small tope to around 8lb but I couldn't get any of these. I dropped the largest fish of the day, got it around 2/3rds of the way up then it let go was a Ray of somekind but we will never know what. Weather wise not to bad in the morning (almost flat in fact) but the wind did get up in the afternoon making it a bit choppy. All in all not a bad day but not brilliant either Fished with the new Conolon Pro and was well impressed with the way this 12-20lb rod handled fish in the tide. Compared with my TDX 12-20lb the action is more through and softer. Ring spacings are perfect and the rod has a good quality reel seat and handle A nice rod and good value but I still prefer the TDX Martin

Back by popular demand the squid run In the next week or so I shall be phoning around for bulk prices on boxes of squid. The 5lb boxes come in cases of six. To obtain the best prices we will need to arrange it so we buy in whole cases. If you can post here what you require then I will see what we can come up with. Martin

Alan Rich has posted that he would like to crew for somone? We (membership) would give you some info on where to fish from either venue. Regards safety check, any committee member can do this for you. You can however fish the clubs competitions wether you have the kit or not up until the point where your boat is inspected. Should your boat fail then you would not be able to enter further club competitions until the boat is brought up to the minimum requirement list. Martin

Thinking big and digging deep would be the order of the day to achieve something like that. How do you develop a club to that extent? There must be funding available, eec, lottery, grants etc. The biggest problems as I see would be 1. all the agencies that give funding want a large chunk put in by the organisation applying and 2. Land exorbertant prices round here! Martin

Alan Are you going to fish the comp, if so from what port? follow this http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/compdates.php the outline of rules are contained within the comp dates. If you need anything clarifying just ask Martin

Got my bfm last week as well. I have it on perscription and take it once a month ............ Well I thought it was funny James give our regards to the clubs favourite skipper I also no longer get the Sea Angler, found it a waste of money, shame as at one time it was the only mag worth having. Type 01: unbraked trailers - max. 750kg gross trailer weight or half the towing vehicle's kerb weight - whichever is less. So it will make a difference but you would have to be border line to bother Type 02: trailers on overrun brakes - max. 3500kg gross trailer weight

Thanks Duncan. Due to the open nature of this forum any fishy marks you don't want all and sundry to know about but are willing to pass on to a few please pm or email them to Adam. Any info would be appreciated. Adam A fishy match could be a good idea so long as 1. it wasn't to serious. 2.We can get some info on the areas to be fished from the away hosts. 3. We would of course have to reciprocate with marks should others fish against us in our neck of the woods. I for one look forward to hearing about any arranged matches and fishing them of course. Martin

Hi Duncan Glad your soul searching is at an end and I am sure you will be very happy with your purchase . I for one would be very interested in reading your thoughts on the predator and look forward to hearing the views of the Burnham lot as well. From your last post I would assume that you are either from around or have experience of the Bristol Channel area . With that in mind we have a trailer commodore (Adam F) who arranges a few trail aways for our club members. If you have inside information on the fishing up the Bristol channel area perhaps you could give our Adam a few pointers regarding times of year, bait and best tides for the cod etc. Adam what do you think of arranging a trip away to Bristol Channel? Martin
