There is a water filter within the engine housing, if that's full it won't start, I had this happen on my 150 optimax also, is the fuel fresh?

Yes very well done and brave Martin. Veronica and I had a very chilly walk along evening hill at around 4pm we could very nearly have walked over to the main channel, lowest I've seen it for a while.
