Petition to save the Coastguard Stations

Thanks for all your best wishes. Sorry to hear about Charlies' problems and hope they are not too serious. It was a really enjoyable trip in many ways, especially knowing that the crew was experienced. The boat handled well and did not disappoint and I came back far less tired, not cold and able to tie up, sort a few things and then go home to eat some of the spoils. I really liked the 520 but the hooking up, engine flushing, getting up the drive etc and then unloading after a trip are probably for a younger or certainly a fitter person . As Dave says it was Whiting City out there, we were rather envious of a Club Member on our buddy boat, a 31ft Mitchell. They were about 70 yards from us and did really well. Cod to 12 plus, whiting to 3.5 lbs, blond ray of 16lb and several lost congers and loads of whiting. It is a new learning curve and there are plenty of lessons to be taken on board, especially in the different handling characteristics of the boat. Work needs to be done on trimming the boat and getting the best speed/fuel econony, but with all the help and advice out there it should't take too. long. I also look forward to getting more involved in Club Comps when newer areas become more familiar. A special thank you to Dave, Charlie, Tom B. and Rich for all their help. Allan.

Many thanks Wedger. There is a boat I may look at that has had it done and is advertised as having 9 years of a ten year guarantee left. What the guarantee is worth I don't know but I understand it was a specialist Company. If we go and see the boat I will find out more and perhaps post again. I did look on the internet and there were some conflicting view but I suspect that these were on yachts being used in warmer waters than ours when it did not seem to be very efficient. Allan.

While looking through various web sites to find a larger replacement for my 520 I have come across several boats with commercially done copper antifouling. I understand that there are possibly environmental considerations but does it work? What happens when the stuff needs replacing etc? Has anyone any experience or advice? Allan.

Thanks Adam, I looked at these a while ago but they could well be worth revisiting. I saw one a while ago at BHG and there are a few around on the various web sites. At the moment all options are open. Thanks for your suggestion I will add them to the possible wish list. Regards. Allan.

I am looking for a boat to replace my Orkney 520. The usual web sites are being watched but I thought a posting on the Club Site could be worth a chance as someone may be selling in the near future. Pilot house boat wanted with inboard diesel prefered (shaft or stern drive) eg. Jeanneau 635 or Beneteau 620 or slightly larger. Other models considered. Year range 2001 to 2008. Please PM if you think you have something that may be of interest. Allan.

Hi Dave Glad to see you could soon be on the water. Perhaps meet you round the Head when the bream start to show in numbers. I believe that Mike Browning owner of the best 520 Orkney i've seen in terms of practical modifications has sourced what you need with a grease nipple from the States don't know if it is the same size on yours but will let you know.

Hi Dave nice to see you are back in circulation and good to talk at the AGM will help with the trailor/hub/bearing/seals when needed. If you do get advice on cables and replace them I would like to pop over and see what is involved. Are you putting on SSteel replacements? There seem to be different qualities of cable which I know little about someone has mentioned TFX extreme to me.Hoping that your venture into this area will help us both and others who will face similar problems in the future.Regards.Allan.

Happy Birthday Dan the first one is on me when I see you up the Stones. Allan.

Many thanks. Once I had printed off the manual the info on page 14 made it very straight forward so its there if it is ever needed and double checked as suggested. Allan.

Many thanks. the radio-Icom M421 was installed on the boat when I got it. No MMSI number has been installed and I did not have the manual so I have printed off the Manual from the Icom site which seems to fit the bill. Will try it out later today. I had a feeling that this was going to be one of those postings I wish I hadn't made that make you feel a right idiot to put it bluntly. Still I did get a solution so if you don't ask you don't get. Allan.

Given the relatively decent dry weather over the last few days much work has been done on Fisheagle in anticipation of the bream and other summer species. One thing has been coming to terrms with my GPSMAP Garmin 178C and installing my MMSI number for emergency use. I have been into the menu and the DSC section and have no problem getting into the section that stores any calls received and allows me to plot them on my map or automatically set a course to their position should I wish. There is also an area that allows me to store other peoples details. However, I am unsure about putting in my own MMSI number. Does it go into one of the above files or am I missing something obvious? It would be usefull to have the emergency channel 70 feature up and running even though I hope I never need it. The Radio is interfaced and I have printed off what information I can find on the Garmin web site. Any help that can be given would be apreciated.

I used the said company when my boat was kept in Weymouth as it was under warrenty and they were the local Yamaha dealer. I have told Mike what I think of them and would not use them again or recommend them in any way. I understand that one of the partners left a few years ago because in his words" they ripped people off" the person who left now works for themselves and does a lot of mobile work and apparently has a good local reputation on outboards and diesels.
