Would be interested in seeing what you come up with and the cost. Could prove useful for my 520. Just a thought would it cope with sandy beaches or would some sort of foot pad be needed?

Have just checked the NFSA site definately not a grey or tub. Hopefully will catch another and get it done properly next time-if there is a next time. Have just copied the NFSA specimen list and the Club list which will now be kept on the boat.

Just checked the record list. Could have dropped a clanger. Pretty sure it was a red this was also the opinion of a guy from Poole who was out with me who fishes for the Albion and crews for the charters that have the little hut that sells some fishing gear near Fishermans Warf in Poole. Should have taken pictures and checked more carefully but it was nice and tasty.

After four short visits down to Weymouth since March when we were beaten by the weather my last 10 days down there proved to be a lot more productive. Mainly inshore marks were fished due to the strong winds even on the calmer days and three trips undertaken. A good range of species were caught including mackeral, gars, several types of wrasse, pollack, bream, bass and red gurnard. In total well over a hundred fish nearly all of which were returned. Three were kept for the pot. These included a gurnard around 2lb, a bream around 2 1/2lb and a half decent pollack at 3 1/2 lb. The best fish was a ballan wrasse of just over three pounds. Nothing enormous but excellent sport on light tackle. Confidence has grown and we now await the time when some of the more off shore marks become available to the Orkney 520. Hopefully this will be during our next visit in August. My greatfull thanks must go to Billy Boy and Rich J.A.W. who really went out of their way to point us in the right direction given the poor weather.

A big thanks to every one who has helped out with this, especailly Mike Y who very kindly phoned through some information this morning about possible fishing marks. So subject to the weather this weekend I should be out there with a few others and will let you know how we get on.

Have finally decided to go for the real thing a drum of anchor plait. It should make things a lot easier in deeper water but will it imrove the catch rate?

I know there have been a lot of postings about this over the last few weeks and that several members have purchased new rope. As I am now looking for something decent for fishing deeper water marks I followed through a link from the site to Boatropes a small firm that sells on ebay and run by Barry Edwards. I don't know if anyone has dealt with him but I have just received samples from him. Not sure if his prices are the best available hence the posting. Also during my search I revisted a site I had not used for a few years. Its called www.animatedknots.com much better than it used to be and well worth looking at for boat and fishing knots for most basic knots. Multiplait nylon 12mm

Thanks everyone. I had been told that Guiltheads can be caught in Portland Harbour around July but it gets very busy with the Lazers and other boats going everywhere in the summer. Nice to know there are other spots to try and a lot closer to home. Seems that there could be a few out over the holiday weekend if the weather is kind so I'll put out a call on Channel 6 to see where everyone is. Hope to see you out there. Allan.

Thanks Bob all adds to the information that is starting to come in. Had a look at the slip at Kimmeridge last year and as you say it could be interesting given certain conditions also abit concerned about security. Will probably stick to Portland and sail round. I know its longer but better to be safe than sorry. Have focused on Kimmeridge as Frank Morris has had some good fish off there. Yet to try Lulworth or the Mupe Bay area because of the ranges as I will be going out mainly mid week so still plenty to explore with lots of potential. Haven't got my charts up here as they are on the boat. Are the two areas you mention to the east and west obvious on the chart?

Hi Mike sounds like you have had some clonking bream from that area. Any help you can give would be much appreciated as you obviously know the area well. Have sent a pm with my contact nos as when I come down to Weymouth we stay at Bowleaze Cove at Waterside where we have a caravan and I don't have ready access to a computer. Thanks Danny,but my boat is in Weymouth and I usually launch from Portland. I should have indicated this in my posting. I do hope to get over that way and meet up with a few other members in Summer when I take my Orkney 520 over to BHG in Lymington to have a few jobs done. So any info you would be willing to share would be put to good use then. I do have charts of the area so I could do a bit of homework before hand and with luck arrange a session when you are able to get out. Once again many thanks. Allan.

Following Fisheagles abortive attempt to join the Easter Weekend towaway to Weymouth (due to cooling problems-now resolved). I hope to come down again and make our maiden fishing trip over the May Bank Holiday Weekend 5/6/7th. Thinking of trying Ringstead or Kimmeridge for a few bream and anything else that is about. Never fished either of these areas before so any advice on possible locations would be much appreciated by myself and Hotshot (Dave from New Milton) who hopes to join me.

Hi Dave, Nice to see that you managed to get out for a session and that you are feeling a lot better. Fisheagle is raring to go and awaits you and your son in Weymouth. Unfortunately a few cooling system problems ( now resolved ) prevented me from going out for the Weymouth towaway Easter Weekend and then Ann had to come back to Leicester for work. I picked up Fisheagle my new Orkney 520 from BHG the first weekend in March and despite two trips down from Leicester (boat kept at Bowleaze Cove) her maiden voyage was cancelled due to gales, the same again last Sunday. Will try again over the Easter weekend and hopefully the Towaway weekend will prove to be the third time lucky. As I need to get used to the boat, especially the fishfinder etc. and she needs running in, fishing will be a welcome bonus. As it will be my first trip with the Club I am looking forward to the opportunity to get to know a few more members and make more contacts.

Once we get April will it be posponed again?
