  1. Hi Sheddy I use a Navman 5100 This is a mono version of Kam's model I had a small problem with mine but sent it off to Navman, in Southampton and they fixed it quickly for me and upgraded the software. I purchased my plotter from the USA with maps and it still worked out cheaper than buying in the UK. Might be worth looking into. I would agree with everyone that colour is nice but you can get a bigger screen in mono for similar money. I have found C-Map NT+ good but they have just brought out C-Map Max which is suppose to be better. I also run a website which you may find useful My Webpage Good luck in your choice Coddy
  2. Hi Dave Welcome to the club. I had a Seahog Hunter before I bought my Warrior. A fine boat it was too. Down side was being out in a F5 in the East Solent trying to get back to Hayling Island at 5kts due to the size of the swells! Hunters do not like going fast in such conditions or should I say my back and legs do not like going fast in such conditions. I did feel perfectly safe in her however. Hope you enjoy her and get some good fish aboard before too long. Coddy

  4. Hi all Launched at Christchurch for the first time and what a nice slipway it is. Meet up with Neo and Stingray crew at the slip and we all helped each other which was great. After a nice cruise down the river we headed out to meet Stingray for some mackeral bashing but we could not seem to find any. (nothing unusal there for us) We then went off to X-ray where we did manage to get some mackeral. Had a quick call to Neo who was at the Ledge so we shot off over there but went out too far and missed them but it seems they were heading for X-ray so we must have crossed each other somewhere. We went back and all meet up for some better mackeral bashing. Neo then took us out to another mark which was very slow to begin with but then the fish started to feed and we were getting Bream, doggies, Blonde and thornback ray. Neo then said he was going Wrasse bashing so we again tagged along and soon got into the wrasse. After the comp time ended we went out to Christchurch ledge for Bass drifting but had no luck so we headed in to meet Dawn Raider coming in as well. With so many boats comming in and out it was a little busy to say the least and yachties seem to want to sail in such tight confines, why? For us on Sammy, we had a good day with good company from other club members and had FUN. We did not have the numbers for winning a comp but it was good to get fish again after what seems such a long time of barren catches. Thanks again to Paul D and nice to meet up with the others. Coddy

    Porsche

A middle aged man bought a brand new convertible Porsche. He took of down the road, pushed it up to 160 and was enjoying the wind blowing through his (thinning) hair. "This is great," he thought and accelerated to an even higher speed. But when he eventually looked in his rear-view mirror there was a police car behind him, blue lights flashing. "I can get away from him with no problem" thought the man and he floored it some more, and flew down the road at over 210 km/hr to escape being stopped. Then he thought, "What the hell am I doing? I'm too old for this kind of thing" and pulled over to the side of the road, and waited for the police car to catch up with him. The policeman pulled in behind the Porsche and walked up on the driver's side. "Sir, my shift ends in five minutes and today is Friday the 13th. If you can give me a good reason that I've never heard before as to why you were speeding, I'll let you go." The man looked back at the policeman and said, "Last week my wife ran off with a policeman and I thought you were bringing her back." The policeman said, "Have a nice day."

    Killer Biscuits

KILLER BISCUITS WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER (this was the actual article) Lisa Burnett, 23, a resident of San Diego, was visiting her in-laws, and while there went to a nearby supermarket to pick up some groceries. Several people noticed her sitting in her car with the windows rolled up and with her eyes closed, with both hands behind the back of her head. One customer who had been at the store for a while became concerned and walked over to the car. He noticed that Lisa's eyes were now open, and she looked very strange. He asked her if she was okay, and Lisa replied that she'd been shot in the back of the head, and had been holding her brains in for over an hour. The man called the paramedics, who broke into the car because the doors were locked and Lisa refused to remove her hands from her head. When they finally got in, they found that Lisa had a wad of bread dough on the back of her head. A Pillsbury biscuit canister had exploded from the heat, making a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, and the wad of dough hit her in the back of her head. When she reached back to find out what it was, she felt the dough and thought it was her brains. She initially passed out, but quickly recovered and tried to hold her brains in for over an hour until someone noticed and came to her aid. Lisa is blonde.

    Norway

Hi Matt Not been fishing in Norway but visited a couple of times on business. I found it a loverly place but b****y expensive compared to the uk for everything! I have flown in to Oslo and Ryanair's version of Oslo which is 50kmtrs outside of Oslo. The best time for Cod fishing according to my busness friends is March/April and it is best to go far northwards as possible. They think nothing of catching a 20 kilo cod I have been offered a trip but can never find the time or the money that time of year! She who must be obeyed tells me so Good luck if you manage to get over there. Coddy

  16. Hi all Just thought I would advise anyone who uses Poole harbour that I was pulled over by the Harbour Master boat last Wednesday when I took my son out for a spin. He asked me if I knew the speed limit in the harbour and had I paid my harbour dues. I explained to him that I had just launched from Baiter and that my car park/slip fee included any other fees. He said was I sure that I launched from there and when I told him the car park fee he said ok and left. We had just crossed the main channel to get out of the Baiter channel and had opened the engine to get accross quickly with out causing any obstruction to other users. I suspect it was the increase in white water from the hull that they noticed as they came towards me. It is a shame they do not police the speed limit a bit more thoroughly as I was passed by a number of boats all well inexcess of 10kts. Would love to know how they would tell if someone is speeding. Is it 10kts over the ground or 10kts in the water? With or against the tide? If its the latter then you could well be inexcess of 10kts going with the tide. If its the former then the spray could mislead someone that they are speeding. If you launch from Cobbs or another slip do you have to pay harbour dues? Coddy

    Crabs????

A bloke's wife went missing while holidaying on the Australian coast. He spent a terrible night wondering what could have happened to her. Next morning there was a knock at the door and he was confronted by a couple of pretty miserable policemen, the old Sarge and a younger Constable. The Sarge said: "Mate, we have some news for you, unfortunately some really bad news, but, some good news and maybe some really good news." "Well," says the bloke, "You'd better let me have it both barrels, what's the bad news?" The Sarge said, "I'm really sorry pal, but your wife is dead. Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft in the reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was dead." The bloke was naturally pretty distressed to hear this and had a bit of a turn. After a few minutes he pulled himself together and asked what the good news was. The sarge said, "Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized crays and a swag of edible crabs in and around her swimsuit, so we've brought you your share." And he handed the bloke a bag with a couple of nice crays and four or five crabs in it. "Gee thanks," said the man. "They're bloody beaut... I guess it's an ill wind and all that. Now, what's the really good news?" "Well", the Sarge said, "Me and young Bill here get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over there and pull her up again!... You fancy comin' along? Sorry Coddy

    Boat Buying Advice

Hi Neil If you want to go out on a seaworthy boat but don't mind it not being fast but will take 4 people I would suggest the Orkney Longliner. It is 16ft long, very stable and takes take a lot of punishment. It will tow behind almost every car and you dont need a large outboard, approx 8hp will cope with most conditions. Cheap to run. Down side it does not usually have a cuddy but you can get the fold down canvas type. I have fished for a number of years in one of these in all sorts of sea conditions on the East Coast. We beached launched/recovered every time and as long as you know your and the boat's limitations I think you wont go far wrong. You will still need all the safety gear but that goes for whatever boat you get. Good luck on your intentions, it can be fun if it all comes together and the fish are about. Regards Coddy
