I am at the PDSAA meeting on Thursday and normally the Southern IFCA people attend these meetings so I am sure this question will be raised, if not I will ask the question and report back. Dave

As the MMO have not signed off the agreement yet it is not enforceable. As Charlie said at the meeting, should anglers follow the spirit of the new regulations before it is signed off? First get out to sea, second find a sizeable Bass If you can get both to coincide at the same time then it's down to your decision to keep or return the fish. How the new regulations are going to be published and passed onto to the angling fraternity will be a major exercise in itself, how are you going to advise nearly 1 million RSA's in the UK? Not everyone belongs to a club, follows forums or even has internet access, reads fishing related magazines or let alone buys a paper.

There is no restriction in Bass fishing but once the marine bill has been published by the MMO, you can not retain/land any Bass for six months. Bass fishing in itself there is no restriction, as long as it is catch and release. If you want to read more see here http://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN00745/SN00745.pdf Below is taken from the above briefing paper as published by House of Commons Library January 2016 For recreational fisheries: In ICES Areas IVb, IVc, VIIa, VIId, VIIe, VIIf, VIIg, VIIh • from 1st January to 30th June 2016 catch and release only permitted • from 1st July to 31st December 2016 one bass per fisherman per day In ICES areas VIIj and VIIk • from 1st January to 31st December 2016 one bass per fisherman per day

Rob I was looking at their NEW craft which was displayed at Fort Lauderdale Boat Show this year, it was on another YouTube and I don't think it did 90mph but around 70+mph It is aimed at those who live in the Bahamas and other tropical Islands or those who own an Island that way! I don't think Britain is tropical enough however Look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYd0WRey1P4
-
Only 190lts/hr I suppose is not bad for a 50+ft craft Comes an expensive trip to the IOW cod grounds from Poole though!
-
Sorry Sparky took first call, however after he has read them he my want to pass them on as his wife might nag him that they are taking up too much space!

See this article on Facebook from European Anglers Alliance https://www.facebook.com/EuropeanAnglersAlliance/posts/415646421893220 It seems that the EU regulation has not been legal yet! For those who don't have access to Facebook here is a copy of what was said by the EAA, there is a bit more including maps etc. on Facebook (Quote) Happy New Year! Sea bass The zero bag limit, which should take effect from tomorrow won't take effect due to legal technicalities. At least this is our understanding - without any liability. If you intend to continue to fish a bag limit 3 bass as is the rule today (2 fish in Irish waters) then we believe you are free to do so. But please check with your national and local bass regulators first. Not everything is decided at EU level. Explanation: As you probably know, a political agreement on sea bass management was reached at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on 14-15 December (see posting 19 December below). The agreement includes a bass zero bag limit during the first half of 2016 and a one bass bag limit during the second half of 2016. However, for this to take effect "an agreement" is not enough. "Adoption" is needed and the act shall be published in the Official Journal with information about when it takes effect. However, the Member States have got until the 5th of January to give comments related to factual errors in the legal text, which therefore still remains a not adopted "proposal for a Council Regulation". After the 5th of January the proposal will be finalised by the lawyer-linguists "for adoption in January 2016". Another thing worth noticing is the retroactive effect built into the proposal. Retroactive provisions are not very welcomed by neither courts nor citizens but here you have it, Article 49: "Entry into force This Regulation shall enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. It shall apply from 1 January 2016.... This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States." The proposed Regulation has not been adopted as yet, and consequently not been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. So we wish you good fishing and eating of bass in January until further notice from EU and/or your national legislators! Happy New Year! The EAA secretariat

Exmouth RNLI volunteers rescue lone fisherman nine miles out at sea
Coddy replied to Coddy's topic in The Lounge
Perhaps this is a timely reminder to ALL club members that the RNLI provide a free safety service to boat owners. This is a confidential chat, generally over a cup of tea/coffee, on the boat to discuss and advise on safety equipment and how to use it correctly. If anyone is interested contact your local RNLI station. You don't need to have the boat on the water it can be done on a drive or marina so there is no need to live close to the sea. As a club we are lucky that a number of club members are RNLI boat safety advisors so there is a friendly face about. There is no pass or fail just advise If you have had a check previously, how long ago was it? Have you changed boats? Perhaps it is time for another check Dave -
A mobile phone call to the Coastguard prompted the launch of Shannon class lifeboat R and J Welburn on Friday 11 December at 2.45pm. A fishing boat from Torquay had suffered mechanical failure and the lone fisherman was unclear of his location. The speed of the Shannon class lifeboat meant that Exmouth RNLI Crew volunteers were on scene, nine miles south east of the lifeboat station within 26 minutes in calm and clear conditions. After a Crew volunteer was put on board to attempt starting the failed engine, the casualty was under tow within 11 minutes towards Torquay. On arrival at Torquay, the casualty was taken by Marina staff to his berth. R and J Welburn returned to station and was ready for service again at 5.50pm. Deputy Launching Authority, Rick Newcombe co-ordinated the search from the lifeboat station: ‘During the tow, the Crew volunteer on board demonstrated how to use his on board VHF radio. This would have been a more reliable method to call for help and his location could have been picked up more precisely, making it easier for us to locate him. We strongly recommend this method to call for help as mobile phone coverage is extremely patchy this far out at sea.’

Hope you have a great day Happy Birthday Dave

Saw this app advertised and downloaded it to see what it was like. It is free to start with i.e. the first 8 species gives you Bronze, you then go up to the next level Silver which costs £2.29, not sure how many species this is worth before going up to Gold. You keep a record of your personnel tally with photo's and you can add species if they are not on the list. There is also a Facebook page to go with is app where you can vote for the species of the month by using the "Like" button, the highest ones get published in the Sea Angling News. Site address is www.specieshunt.uk Dave

Sorry Stuie but which Facebook page?

Looks iffy for Sunday at the moment

I am not a specialist Bass fisherman but I don't see any reason why there is not a "Closed season" for RSA's & commercials catching Bass. I think 6 months may be too long but coarse anglers have a 3 month break on ALL species so why not similar period for Bass? I can understand that some people will suggest that this is the start of a total ban on sea fishing, there is also the fact that many people have invested in their boats let alone charter boat skippers, tackle shop owners, manufactures and suppliers would be affected and I suspect a number of redundancy's would happen. It is a complex issue and I don't think there is a simple answer

Don't forget that when you replace the floor, I suspect you will use marine grade plywood, that you coat BOTH sides with fiberglass resin or epoxy resin to seal it. Last thing you want is the floor to rot again from underneath! Hope you have a good dust mask when cutting out the old floor as the dust will be full of fibres and you don't want to breath that lot in Good luck and keep asking away, be nice if you can take pictures as you progress and give a report on how its all going, many would be interested similar to Adam's recent rebuild of his boat.
